DSB has just announced the second delay for the IC5 project. DSB signed the contract with Alstom for 100 5-car Coradia Stream EMU's in June 2021 with revenue service staring in December 2024.

The first delay for 6 months was announced in the spring of 2022. Now the second delay of additionally 19 months has been announced by DSB. The first trains will now enter revenue service in December 2026.
As penalty Alstom will deliver an unknown number of additional trains for free. If DSB buys more trains from the framework agreement, Alstom will supply an additional unknown number of trains for free.

Passengers can expect to travel with IC5 in 2027 (dsb.dk)

The international train manufacturer Alstom has adjusted the schedule for when the electric train sets on the Coradia Stream platform will enter passenger service.

It has been necessary to adjust the schedule for several reasons. First of all, Alstom is taking longer than expected to complete the final IC5 design and ensure that the trainsets meet the high quality, comfort and reliability requirements that DSB has set for IC5, the Danish version of the Coradia Stream. Two other significant factors for Alstom are uncertain supply chains worldwide and adaptation of capacity and production plans.

Production of the IC5 is underway at Alstom's factories in Katowice (Poland) and Salzgitter (Germany) and the first train sets will be delivered to Denmark during 2025. After delivery, they must be quality tested and approved by the authorities and finally DSB personnel must carry out training in the train sets , before they can be put into passenger service.

In November it was also announced that the Coradia Stream High Capacity (HC) trains for Baden Württemberg in Germany will be delayed, resulting in an alternative timetable for the regional services through the new Stuttgart 21 station. 130 train sets have been ordered and 80 of them should have been delivered before December 2025. Now Alstom only expects 14 trains to be delivered before December 2025.

The Coradia Stream HC trains for Lower Saxony are also delayed.

Are these units intended (amongst other things!) to replace the loco-hauled trains currently running Hamburg - Copenhagen? I know these are intended only as an interim solution. Thanks!

No. Between Hamburg and Copenhagen brand new Vectron-hauled Talgo coaches will be put into service around summer 2024. Interim solution was put into place when Talgo announced the delay of the order from 2023 to 2024.

The IC5 trains will only be able to run internally in Denmark.

If I'm not mistaken they are intended to replace the IC3, IR4 and IC4.

That's correct. Shame about the IC3 being replaced - they're very nice trains. Less said about the IC4, though, the better!
