Any way to check if the ticket has already been used?

Hello, is there a way to check tickets validity based on the booking reference number/barcode, hether it has been already used or not?

Long story short - I have purchased some open return tickets for trips A & B. I am afraid I have messed up and for return leg of trip A; I have scanned return trip B ticket when opening barriers. So now when I will be coming back from trip B I no longer have a valid return because I have already scanned it...

On a similar note, is there a way a retailer can see whether a paper ticket has been collected from a ToD machine? Sometimes I get in a panic if I can't find a ticket, so far it has always turned up eventually "in a safe place", but if all else failed would the retailer be able to see if it has been collected?

You should be able to see issue date on a TOD, I'm not 100% but I think issue location may also be available.
