Milton Keynes (MK) will be receiving all the MX09/CX58 Reg E400s.

We already have 4431/2/6/7/9 out on MK services already.

They are supposedly replacing the 39xx series Volvos we have and the Volvo B9TL ELC/Optare Olympus vehicles (4101-5) which have transferred to Luton (LN).
Anymore arrived this Weekend?

Had the dubious pleasure of riding the Scania OmniCity/Link(?) that recently transferred from Derby to Tamworth yesterday... it's showing it's age, shall we say.

How much longer can Arriva keep shuffling scruffy, life expired tat around between depots before they realise they need to place a large order for new busses, the longer they leave it, the bigger the order will have to be...

Agreed. Eventually they'll run out of Wright Pulsar 2s and ADL E200MMCs to shuffle about.

Recently transferred to Milton Keynes (MK) from Thurmaston are E400s 4435 - CX58 GBV and 4438 - MX09 LXF. They’re both out working the X4/X6 respectively.

4435 tracking as 4436
4438 tracking as SP MK (Spare Ticket Machine)

How does type training work at Arriva?
Hinckley rejected putting an Omnilink into service a couple of months ago on the basis of no drivers being trained and the 72 plate E400MMCs aren't allowed on Hinckley operated services for similar reasons but today there has been a Versa on the 158 (a type that has not been allocated to Hinckley in the recent past).

I’m sure Hinckley has an Optare Solo which is a shortened Versa, practically the same vehicle.

I think it was more that Hinckley just didn’t want the Scania, if that was the case they would’ve returned 3586 back to Tamworth as that replaced 3729.

The 72 plate MMCs are different, with the vehicles being mirrorless I believe Arriva have to train drivers with that, whereas solos/versas, Pulsars/Commanders etc are basically the same running gear, just different bodies etc.

Hinckley have four Solos, including Solo SR 1520.

I'm curious to know what's going on with that!

8044 entered service today.

It seems arriva are expanding into spondon from the 19th April with the new 20 and 21. The 21 doing the former spondon flyer route minus the loop around Huntley avenue from Nottingham road and the 21 co staying on Nottingham road and entering spondon from Arnhem terrace and then looping around Sitwell street and chapel street. I wish them well on there new venture and for the record I don't work there I've been sent pictures of what's planned from friends that do work there.

I saw the map earlier, but as I don't know Spondon well enough, it didn't make a lot of sense. Sandringham?, Arnhem Terrace and Asda Spondon were there, so clearly not a Flyer, more a connector

Is the 20 being re-routed from Chaddesden?
I actually wondered if it was a both ways loop, extended from Chaddesden to Spondon

Just out of curiosity; does anyone know why Arriva appears keen to expand in the Derby area? X38 increases, this 20/21.

Seems strange when everywhere else they have no appetite for starting competition, just muddling through shuffling buses around with the odd investment here and there.

No idea I mean mabey because of derby getting that depot reward and it becoming profitable perople higher up they seen the potential looking at the area in more depth than they have with other places.
Plus to be fair they work closely with the council in derby trying grow the area for example with the 2 into chelleston past lidl Aldi whatever the supermarket is called and the 1b into Bouton Moor.
I mean spondon area wasn't happy when the flyer ended with local maps and Councils trying to talk to the operator so probably just wanted to replace it but without funding so thought arrivia can and proposed it to them Showing that potential and the fact its been underivensted in may allow room in the market for them.

Saying that though I do assume was just on there behalf no council input but who knows. to be honest probably ain't even the fact of rewards or anything probably just seen its got more room in the area due to under investment that they can gain advantage of

I would think that Derby was ripe for growth for buses. That may have Council support and there has been Council interaction with bus operators re Spondon.. I think there is potential. Look, when the £3 bus fare ends, Derby users may look at what day tickets cost, especially if you start before 09.00. An Arriva day ticket appears to offer good value for ALL users, set against say the Mango app. I think the target has to be those who do not currently use the bus... Maybe in a few years, less people will be driving cars around Derby, especially with the forthcoming VED increases. For many, an electric car won't be a solution. Public transport maybe

21 was the route number that Arriva (Derby City Transport at the time) used for their Spondon service before they gave up Spondon to Trent in exchange for the Melbourne/Swadlincote route, interesting to see that back after over 30 years!

Although Arriva seems keen to expand in Derby, still no sign of any electric buses - which made me wonder whether Derby is the biggest city in England with no electric/hydrogen/LPG buses either running or on order?

Well, I guess the Toyota hydrogen bus does make the odd appearance on University open days....Arriva Derby were part of the Zebra 2 bid, that was unsuccessful. Electric buses on the Alvaston route. The same bid would have seen hydrogen buses on Skylink and Sixes

Arriva looking to expand does seem rather out of character.
Ah well. Toby France will be involved
Perhaps this is the main thing...

That OpCos may have a little bit more freedom to innovate than they had under the old regime - certainly seems that way with Arriva Midlands. Of course, the whole group has some longstanding issues with lack of investment to cope with (as well as other historic faults).

Maybe they can afford to speculate what with them having so many depreciated buses. In Derby, you could see expansion leading to growth, leading to an all electric fleet.
