Hi guys,

Sounds like your building your hopes up to much...I'm guessing you haven't been offered the jobs yet...?

Why would you assume that? No I haven't been offered the job put I've past the first and in my opinion biggest hurdle.

I find it odd that someone wouldn't find out such basic information before progressing further, what's the point in applying for a role, being offered a job and then realising the shifts don't suit. That just doesn't make sense.

Earliest start around 0250, latest finish around 0120, with various start and finish times in between. Mostly it's a week of earlies then a week of lates, changing over on the Sunday.

Noone has got past the first online assessment for guards, or even the initial sift for drivers yet. I don't see any harm personally in people asking about the realities of the job though even at this early stage.

Thanks for the advice, next stage the test ;);););););););)

Hi guys, quick question, does anyone know if the links that ATW have sent have a practice area to practice the SCAAT Test and the General Ability Test? I don't want to use the links, log in and have to do the actual tests until I'm 100 percent ready! I'm currently practising these tests elsewhere on the internet, but I'm guessing that it would be better to practice the tests on the actual site that are conducting them, if that makes any sense.

I'd never criticise anyone for asking such important information about the job given that the industry is quite unique in its shifts and it's certainly not for everyone.

However

Personally I'd be asking these questions long before spending what could be hours on an application form and am basically close to assessment stage. Seems like a lot of hard work for nothing if you actually pass and THEN find its not for you.

This is the reason so many apply......see the pound signs and ask questions later. Each to their own though I suppose lol :D

I'd have to agree, I did realise the shifts where somewhat unusual before applying but thought it did no harm asking the exact shift pattens once I passed the first stage.
The reason for applying wasn't the money as the salary is only marginal to my current wage, in theory it will be a pay drop with the 1 hour travel each way as my current employment is only a 10 minuet drive.
Onwards and upwards :)

Has anyone who applied for the shrewsbury trainee driver position heard back yet?

I applied for Crewe and still waiting, maybe next week with a bit of luck :)

I should add it was the Conductors shifts I posted. Drivers are on pretty similar T&C's with regards to shift patterns and committed hours, but slightly different hours. Earliest start at Crewe for drivers is 0240, latest finish ~0140, plus they have a night turn (2100-0500 or thereabouts).

I'm sure that you will be fine!

You've done a lot more research than a lot of other applicants have done.

I wasn't referring to you mate with my ££££ comment....was just saying so many people who apply unfortunately see the money and ask questions later and waste the time of a lot of people including themselves.

It takes a special kind of person to work on the railway.....it's far from a paradise for many reasons and as attractive as the salaries look there are some days where you feel drastically underpaid. But it does swing in roundabouts....There are some days you have to pinch yourself come pay day.

If you can handle weird shifts and being treated like dirt from time to time you'll be fine. I in spite of all that still love the job/industry and would recommend it to anyone. My best advice to you is approach it with your eyes wide open and look at the big picture even when the negatives smack you in the chops.....If you do that I promise you won't bother with another industry.

Received an email this morning (applied for Crewe driver) to say they won't be progressing the vacancy until January 2017, due to a change in the business needs. However, will be in contact in the New Year.
Not sure if that's the same for all driver positions, or just Crewe.

I've just heard I've got a phone interview for Machynlleth driver vacancy ☺

I could do with some advice on what to expect during the interview.
I'll start a new topic on phone interviews as it may be useful to others & easier to find.

I got the same email this morning. It was for the trainee train driver at Crewe. Stating a change in business needs they are not progressing with this vacancy until January. I will receive an email in the new year.

Yes I had the same email, may be I'm wrong but can't help thinking it has something to do with the dB redundancies. To be fair if it is the case it's better really to keep trained drivers in employment where possible.

Completed the tests, anyone got any idea when we will get our results from the tests, I suppose that it's going to be Tuesday at the earliest, as they've got to give everyone a chance to complete them first!

metalmickey, just done the tests myself. They're open until Monday 2300hrs so will be at least Tuesday before we hear. However, with phone interviews on Friday 4th, I'd rather hope we'd find out Wednesday latest!

Which depot have you applied for?

Potato 185, I've applied for Cardiff,, what about you, where have you applied too? I'm hoping that it won't take long for the results as its all computerised, and the fact that the telephone interviews are next friday, so would like as much time as possible to prepare. Good luck with your assessments, fingers crossed we both get through to the telephone interview.

I've applied for Holyhead. So completely different end of the country to you!

Fingers crossed. I've not done a phone interview for best part of 3 years so that'll be interesting.

Must be different for my role then. I only received them yesterday with "You must log in and complete miniSCAAT by 31/10/2016" in the email.

Which role have you gone for JetStream? I think because the role I applied for opened/closed later than the rest, it may be the that it's all a week out of sync. However, email suggests phone interviews 4th as per mentioned above. Gonna be close!

Crewe. It's annoying me because some have had rejections and others have had interviews - I've had neither!

I know someone who also went for Crewe and done their tests but not heard back as far as I'm aware. Suppose we shall have to wait.

I've just heard that I'm through to the face to face interview.
I'm not sure if I'm being considered for Machynlleth or Pwllheli though!
not that it matters, I'd take either!
