Unfortunately this is happening everywhere, and seems to be on the increase with the high price of metal for scrap. If it is not enough stealing stuff they then have to go one step further and set it on fire too.

It is because the cable is marked, the scrap yards are at last asking questions so they are trying to melt it down on site.

Unfortunately until the scrap yards ask more questions then this will continue - there are very few people that are point to turn up with electric cable legitmately but once it is smelted you can never prove where it came from.

Mindless yobs with plenty of time on their hands now schools are closed, but more likely a case of vandalism than cable theft. Devil makes work ..... etc!
This stretch of line is always under attack from the muppets who like around it, that signal box at Goldthorpe is like Northern Ireland Police station with wire and plexi-glass panels ...its a war-zone!!

Snippet from report: Two youths were seen in a cul-de-sac close to the scene of the crime, in Lindley Crescent, shortly after the fire was reported to police

Alert Scotland Yard, two young people happened to be in the area....it must of been them!
