Got my assessment day for C2C on Friday.

I've studied lots of websites, done the tests, prepared for the interview.

Hope all this prep comes together.

Preparation is everything and it sounds like you have done as much as you can.Remember to think before you act or speak, and above all relax. If it feels like it's going wrong, take a deep breath and carry on as if it hasn't...Easy to say I know, but you can do it!,Good luck!!

Well done that man. Key thing to do is relax in the interview and as toots said, think before you speak, take your time if you have to think of an answer :)

And good luck.

For anyone else that is due the assessment I'll go through what the day panned out like:

First the Dot test. On paper, which was a relief as i found the computer version harder. I managed to get nearly halfway down each sheet before told to change. 5 sheets to complete.

Had a little break and next:

The train-ability for rules & procedures test. Had to listen and read a passage about a "GLOP" train. We had 5 mins to read and make notes and try to remember as much information as possible before the passage and notes are taken away. Then you answer 18(i think) questions. Didn't do too badly on that.

Then we had another break.

Then the people that failed either of those tasks were sent home. Out of 13 around 5 or 6 failed.

Next we had the dials test. Which wasn't too hard to be fair.

Followed by the Fault finding test. Which was a little bit more detailed, but as long as you listen and read the instructions, and stay calm, you should do okay.

Then lunch followed by the reaction test.
You sit in front of a screen and a console with 5 coloured buttons, a low and high pitch button for the sound pumped through your headphones and two foot pedals.
You have a little practice where colours appear on screen, low & high pitch sounds are sounded to the headphones and pedal squares appear on screen.
Just take your time on this. When it starts to go really fast, just compose yourself and carry on. You WILL make mistakes on this (i started pressing the pedals when the sound was going off!) but don't worry too much.

I must admit, despite the competition for the job. Everyone there helped each other along, we even stayed until the last person completed his reaction test! Its a shame everyone couldn't get a job. Good bunch of blokes.

Hardly a 90% Failure rate like some people try to claim!
It was nowhere near that when I went for mine as well.

It all depends on the structured interview. If it's done internally it's different to the one done by the OPC at Watford. I think out of the 5 or 6 that pass, 2 may fail the structured 2 more at managers interview leaving 2 to pass the medical.

I was told the psychometric tests have the 90% failure rate so the line manager interview does not count but the structured interview does

Fault finding was in two parts then because I thought dials was fault finding? Was fault finding based on switches in the second part like the how2become book? The book also mentions cables though it only shows dials in the practice material. First you have the dials (which seem easy) then the switches?

PS good you can make notes on the GLOP

Oh somethings missing... the mechanical comprehension test?

Mechanical Comprehension is no longer a core test as it is now considered irrelevant to whether someone would make a good Driver and I agree.
I have passed this test 4 times now and its not that difficult it is more of a case of working quickly enough to get through all the questions in time.
It is supposed to be related to your traction training. However on my traction training I saw no real resemblance to anything on the Mechanical Comprehension test at all.

Wonder if it will soon be across the board. Great news if they are not replacing it one obstacle less and tricky for some

I think you may find that 10% of applicants that attend the assessment days become drivers, this figure is different for 90% failing

Yes, and there is a good number of people out there with psychometric test passes that are still not driving
