Hi,

Quick Query. Does anyone know if Arriva Trains Wales Groupsave tickets are valid on journies from England to Wales (ie Four Oaks to Aberdovey), and will the ticket office at Four Oaks be able to issue them?

Thanks,

David

The product you talk of is listed in the FRPP not as GroupSave but as Group Wales and states the following (relevant to your questions) with regard to it:

FRPP said:
Issuing office(s)

Any Arriva Trains Wales retail outlet including on-train where the ticket office is closed / station is unstaffed

Customer eligibility

A qualifying group is a minimum of three and a maximum of nine people travelling together. Group Wales is sold only as an adult ticket, but children may use this ticket. See size of group below.

Area of validity

Arriva Trains Wales
So in answer to your above questions,

Yes/No, it states above that the offer is valid across the Arriva Trains Wales network so the ticket would be valid to or from English stations such as Birmingham New Street but not from Four Oaks (ATW does not run any services to said station), the validity map is on the National Rail website (http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/manag...2/areaMap/Arriva_A2_poster-20070705125256.pdf).

No, it states above that the tickets can only be sold from Arriva Trains Wales retail outlets, Four Oaks ticket office is operated by London Midland.

They are not available from Four Oaks as the tickets are only valid in the ATW network. Then should be available from Birmingham New Street, and allow 25% each off a day return only.

From ATW website
GroupWales for small groups
If there are three to nine of you travelling together, you can save money by buying a GroupWales ticket, which gives each of you 25% off the full price ticket. You all get a ticket - you just need to travel together for your outward and return journeys.
GroupWales can be used for any journey where a Cheap Day or Standard Day (where no Cheap Day exists) Return is valid, with exactly the same conditions of travel, and is available throughout the Arriva Trains Wales network. However, on Standard Day Returns the offer is not available before 0930am. Monday to Friday.

You can buy GroupWales tickets at any station, National Rail Appointed Agent, or from the conductor on the train if you are travelling from an unstaffed station.

This is interesting as both the FRPP and the National Rail website both state they can only be purchased at ATW Ticket Offices.

How to buy your tickets
At any manned Arriva Trains Wales station. If boarding at an unmanned station, Group Wales can be purchased on train.
