Even anti motorists aren't anti roads because they need something to cycle on or their bus to use. That's before they realise their local Co op needs roads so it can receive fresh supplies of organic produce and that day's Guardian.

You seem to be having your own conversation again.

What happens when everyone available to work is already on, people in spare are allocated work within their hours and those wanting rest day working are in. What happens if that isn't sufficient?

Question for staff on here. When was the last time you were offered overtime or rest day working to sit spare so there was always additional cover available to cover for on the day sickness and disruption.

Simply put you get cancellations - the key element is normally whether you have enough RDW / overtime volunteers. If you don't, then it depends on the extent of the gap between the diagrams available for cover and the diagrams rostered that day. And resources teams then have to work hard overnight and throughout the day to beg/borrow/steal, chop/change diagrams & cross-cover depot work to get as much covered as possible.

It's not often that you'd get overtime to sit spare but can happen - normally you utilise anyone booked to be spare straight off the bat and ring around for overtime volunteers. There may be people "part spare" though when looking at parts of diagrams that need covering.

Goodwill and good relations is a major part of crew resourcing - on many fronts - and anyone who says differently is living in a fantasy land.

@A0wen seems to be advocating for the Serpell report to be enacted. Anything that doesn't meet those stringent criteria apparently warrants closure!
Serpell. That brings back memories lol. Been there, done that.

Chaos at Euston tonight. They shut the gates due to overcrowding. Avanti services have been rammed all day before this evening's disruption after a lot of earlier cancellations. Hopefully everyone can get home okay.
Yeah a fatality or something similar occurred. BBC also announcing on the news channel that staff shortages haven’t helped.
