Seconded by me ! I only wish that, like @QJ, I had thought to record my rail journeys after starting to travel regularly from 1972. Unfortunately I only have details from 1983 onwards, and those are incomplete as DMUs, EMUs and even HSTs did not count !

At least you have some of your records. I only have memories of what happened in my head. A very limited few I remember the date of but most are approximations and very incomplete sadly

Apologies - a slightly delayed one from me ...
I head been made redundant in Crewe and was now working in Paddington for Freightliner. That was 3-shift work, with a gap from Saturday lunchtime to Sunday night, and I was lodging in Paddington whilst trying to get my Crewe house sold and a new house purchased nearer London.
The LT&S line had just been converted from 6.25kV AC to standard 25kV AC, and a Carlisle to Southend Central ADEX had been arranged to take advantage of this. So I worked my full night shift, had some breakfast, then came out to Euston:

85023 1050 Watford Junction - Southend Central via Camden Jn., Stratford, Barking, Tilbury Town.
Watford was an advertised stop to set down anybody for the London area, so the train courier didn't mind me joining in their place. I believe this was the first passenger electric loco-hauled train to Southend since the voltage conversion - and it was a Roarer too!
At Southend Central the passengers disembarked into the waiting arms of a reception committee, including the local Area Manager. The stock was going forward to Shoeburyness Carriage Sidings. It would be rude not to:
85023 1235 Southend Central - Shoeburyness Carriage Sidings. A minor riot ensued upon our arrival. The shunter there had never seen an ETH cable before, and nearly ripped it off 85023 by forgetting to uncouple it. We explained what was required, and helped him do his job.
Alas I couldn't fester in this part of the world all day - I had to get back to Paddington for some doss before another night shift, hence:
308 151 + 302 261 Shoeburyness - Fenchurch Street.
... and I've never been back there since!
