Not a bad consolation, that 37!
I thought it was my 1.25 miles moves between Edinburgh and Haymarket that could be described as dreadful! I was never content with anything under 10 miles - and certainly not for anything decent! But it just about counts for haulage.....!
There's a ML 37 coming up later this week :D
37250 was always considered to be special and treated with reverence by Syphon Bashers in the north east of England. Eventually, we all got it in the book after having missed it out of Newcastle on the stopper to Edinburgh one Saturday - most of us were further south at the time, but one chap despairingly witnessed it roll into Waverley.

Still to be enjoyed on the Wensleydale, but I was rather put out by the Thornaby depot sticker it was carrying last time I visited! It will always be a Gateshead loco in my mind.

Yes....but the Redmire trips were always diagrammed for a Thornaby loco, so maybe the Wensleydale guys were in need of a nostalgia fix. Now if they were to swap 250 for 075 off the Worth Valley, maybe everyone would be happy.... especially you! (Sorry mods.... drifting off topic slightly!)

Was there anything particularly rare about 250 compared to the others?....I would have though that most of the non boilered NE based engines would have been relatively rare on passenger outings. I'd imagine it would have been much the same for LE and CF nb locos too, with the exception of the Lickey bankers! I remember one of the Scottish Syphon boys telling me about a LE 37 that turned up on some rescued DMU in the valleys somewhere or other and the bashers had to wipe the coal dust off the number to see which one it actually was! :D

I don't think it was any rarer than the others. Being the highest number 37 allocated to Gateshead might have been a factor, and one of only four in the 372xx series (212, 216 and 242 being the others).

Ah well, at least we both got it in the book while it still had a GD sticker on it! 8-)

Is that a first class coach that I see behind the loco?
Good spot! Heaton just lashed up sets with whatever they had. I guess I got to travel in style when I baled on at Hexham.

I don't see what the fuss is about. I had both 37212 and 37250 on commuting journeys, 37212 0703 from Cambridge on 16/08/83 and 37250 1805 to Norwich via Cambridge on 12/09/83.

If i remember correctly 47283 was allocated to 1J39 so we drove to International for it, what we didn't know was that Bescot had conjured up a EH 47, 47283 was at Wolverhampton in the bay sidings, one that got away from me.

12 years ago:

Interlaken to Mannheim
Mannheim to Köln
Köln to Düsseldorf
Düsseldorf to Duisburg
Duisburg to Oberhausen
Oberhausen to Amsterdam

Some were ICE and some were IC. I was on an Interrail pass so valid on all without the need for seat reservations.

156430 2044 Patterton-Glasgow Central - The Neilston branch was closed beyond Patterton for engineering work and, enterprisingly, Railtrack and Scotrail ran a DMU service, running in both directions over the Up line between Patterton and Muirend where the then-Ground Frame controlled crossover was used. This is the only time, in over 30 years of using the Neilston service, that I have known DMUs to work the route.
