Please can someone help me work out the best combination of tickets for the following journeys:

Tues 24th October

2X Adults Exeter - Bodmin Parkway - arriving around 5pm
2X Adults + 1 Child Bodmin Parkway - Looe leaving around 6pm

Saturday 28th October

2X Adults + 1 Child Looe - Exeter - leaving afternoon

Basically, we are picking up our son at Bodmin, all going down to Looe, then all going back to Exeter.

We have Devon and Cornwall and F&F railcards.

Many thanks

In this case, forget the F&F Railcard as everything is covered by the Devon & Cornwall Railcard, and there are no complications about travelling without the child. You also benefit from a £1 flat fare ticket for the child. You would be covered for all of the travel by Off Peak Returns from Exeter to Looe at £24.40 each plus £1 for the child ticket. However, others may know if there is a cheaper split available.

Is Looe via Bodmin a permitted route? NRE doesn't think so, meaning that you would need an Anytime Day Return for Liskeard-Bodmin which is £3.65 each plus maybe an extra £1 child fare (check the rules!).

Just playing with the booking system myself has produced:

EXD - Looe (2Xadults, 1Xchild, Devon&Cornwall R) = £49.80
Looe - Bodmin Parkway day return (2Xadults, 1Xchild, Devon& Cornwall R) = £11.90

Total, £61.70

Can anyone find cheaper than that?

EDIT: Actually, I can get away with a Liskeard to Bodmin P return, rather than a looe to bodmin P return, with is £8.30

Thanks if anyone is still following this!

Exeter St D to Plymouth 2 adults DCR off peak day single £17.60

Cornwall Ranger 2 adults DCR £19.80

Bodmin Parkway to Looe 1 child DCR £1

Total £38.40

Covers the first day

Coming back is £26.80 for straight singles so £65.20. Doesn’t quite beat the last post.

Slightly cheaper as the child fare is not needed to be held on the outward journey from Exeter.

Exeter - Looe CDS 2x Adult with DCR £25.70
Liskeard - Bodmin SDR 2x Adult with DCR £7.30
Bodmin - Looe CDS 1x Child with DCR £1
Looe - Exeter CDS 2x Adult - 1x Child with DCR £26.80

= £60.80

Even cheaper:

Exeter - Looe SVR 2x Adult with DCR £48.80
Liskeard - Bodmin SDR 2x Adult with DCR £7.30
Bodmin - Looe CDS 1x Child with DCR £1
Looe - Exeter CDS 1x Child with DCR £1

=£58.10

CDS = Off peak day single
SDR = Anytime day return
SVR = Off peak return

Thanks, that's the total @DevonRambler and I came up with earlier but didn't spell it out so neatly.
