Heyford, there’s a bistro on the canal overlooking the station with frieght, Cross Country and GWR trains passing. A perfect place to sit in the sun watching the canal boats and trains passing.

Any others that spring to mind?

The Magnet in Stockport has to be worthy of a mention - as well as the terrace being right next to the line between Stockport and Piccadilly, you can also see planes coming into Manchester Airport if that floats your boat!

The Parcel Yard at Kings Cross is pretty good (I believe it was previously a Parcel Force depot, hence the name). Some of the seats have views over the platforms.

Food isn’t bad either.

The Sidings near York is a restaurant but has some great views of the ECML from the beer garden.

Similarly, the York Tap is pretty good and has tables on the platform.

Pricey , but good. Part of it was the Divisional Inspectors Office in the 1960's , friends relate having difficult Rules exams in there ..(they always passed though) :D

The Cutter Inn at Ely is a nice spot.
The Ship at Reedham (Norfolk) by the swing bridge, may even see it swing if you drink enough.
The Station at Wivenhoe. Some of the fittings look like they were acquired from Clacton depot.
The Fat Controller on Rochford station, especially if you like 321s and only 321s.

Black Lion at Consall on the Churnet Valley Railway (on running days!). Immediately adjacent to canal also. Real ale and real cider available..

The Plough at Galgate on the WCML.

Also, whatever the pubs are called at Arnside on the Furness line. Great to watch trains heading over the estuary on a summers day.

Great Western at Wolverhampton. You’ll get a stiff nick looking up at trains, but can ease that with some lubricating Bathams.

Not too many services mind, but the Cross Guns at Avoncliff has a lovely view of a river, canal (on the bridge) and the Bath - Westbury line (at the back). It also has its own little Halt just tucked behind the trees.

The Albion in the village centre near the pier and the Fighting Cocks, nearer the railway but actually less well placed for viewing. The Snug on the platforms at Carnforth of course. There used to be one on the platform at Hartlepool and in Newcastle. Not to forget Stalybridge, Sowerby Bridge and Huddersfield.

The Rushcutters in Thorpe St Andrew, Norwich. Good views of the Wherry/Bittern lines services

Also a shout out for the little bar on Manningtree station

The Maltings Taphouse & Bottle Shop, Newton Abbot, Devon. A small beer garden built on the old sidings, meters from the line at the Exeter end of Newton Abbot station.

Also got a fond memory of sitting outside All Bar One at Canary Wharf on a warm summer's afternoon with a beer watching DLR trains rumble over the viaduct to Heron Quays.

I hope the typo was meant to say 'neck', instead of replacing the 'n' with a 'd'!

I can second that!
Very good in the winter/early spring, and there are diversions down the B&H

Or sitting outside the not too far away "Cat and Canary" (Fullers pub) watching the DLR services at West India Quay!

The Sheffield Tap which is right on the platforms at Sheffield.

The Sheaf View pub beer garden has a great view of the mainline heading out of Sheffield Station to the South West.

The Station Inn at Ribblehead. Looks straight out over the Viaduct. May have to sink a few to see any significant action on the line though!

Graze in Bath is at one end of Platform 2 at Bath Spa. Quite nice to sit out in their garden/terrace and keep an eye on the goings on at the station. They also have a smaller balcony on the other side of the building that looks over Dorchester Street. Unfortunately, it is rather expensive, but some of the Bath Ales offerings are quite nice -- they even brew a "Platform 3" ale in reference to where they are located.

You can always camp the night in the back field, there’s been 2 or 3 tents there on the couple of occasions I’ve been

Be it through a window but I have sat and seen the passing trains whilst in the West Riding at Dewsbury station and Head of Steam at Huddersfield if sat in the right place. The Kings Head at Huddersfield I don’t recall having such a great view outside to the platform

I have vivid memories, from the other ‘side of the fence’ (being on a train) zooming through Stalybridge on a TPE towards Huddersfield, particularly on a nice Friday afternoon, and the platform area outside the pub being full of drinkers. I have a feeling this isn’t allowed anymore though

The beer garden of the Angel Inn in Durham has a good view over to the ECML as it passes along the viaduct in the city.

The Bay Horse at Canal Foot, Ulverston, Cumbria, offers views of the Leven Viaduct on the Furness Line. There must be a pub in Grange or Arnside that has views onto the Kent Viaduct...?

The Central in Gateshead has an upstairs balcony next to the curve from the High Level Bridge towards Sunderland/Durham Coast.
