Which of these are good for the reaction test at a train driver assessment?

I know bop it has cropped up hundreds of times, but how about console based games? Like Call of duty for example? Its a fast game, with the player needing to react quickly, furthermore (if you have a good sound system) you can listen out for foot steps and react accordingly.
I've also heard the guitar hero game is good? Just wondering what your opinions are?

For me, bopit and guitar hero are the most "similar" type of games to the reaction test.
I don't really think any other type of games would be much help....yes they can help raise your reactions in general...but for the test I would say only bopit and guitar hero are anything like it.

I don't have a games console. Bought the BopIt via Argos on ebay for £17.00 and I'm sure that's what got me through. However, Steve who was also at my assessment centre used a console. Useful to hear from Liam86 having used both. What do others think?

Also, there's a bop it app/game for iPad/iPhone etc (maybe other phones/devices aswel) which might be useful.

When I sat my tests I didn't play these games as practice, they were just something I had done in the past and after the test these were 2 things I instantly thought of, they felt similar. If I had to choose one I would have to say bopit....as that game can get quite frantic!

I used Guitar Hero to help me but for those of you without a console and with an Android or iPhone, there's an app which is similar called "TapTap Revenge". It's very addictive and I would say is the best things for this! (Could even play it on the way to the assessment centre!)

I did this yesterday and just about managed to pass, even though i felt that I was doing really well. The big thing to remember with this test is not to just press any button if you cant keep up. Its far better to pause and then restart, rather than pressing the wrong buttons/pedals.
I used Bop it, and you need to get to master level including using the shout it function and it will tell you that you have beat bop-it. That will be the kind of speed you will be expected to work at on the test.

Good luck.....

Guitar hero is by far the better option as it is colour coded, if you have the drum kit even better

I never practiced anything for this test and was anxious on the day. But I have always been into games and found this test so easy. Honestly don't worry about it, what’s so hard about pressing a green button if you see green on the screen and so on...
If you play call of duty and other games you do not need bopit. I promise you when you’ve done it you will look back and laugh at all the comments made on how hard it was, how fast it was!

good luck

That is why only 5% pass the reaction test because it is so easy :roll::roll: Did you get a trainee drivers job

I do think some people will find it easy, but I would definitely say practise on the games discussed to anyone with a test upcoming.

I too went in with little practise and passed (so it is possible), and am into computer games also, which I think does help.

Yes I got the job. I find it hard to believe that only 5 % pass this test, where did you get that information from out of curiosity. It is quite possible that 5 % may only pass the new Dfft test as allot of potential internal recruits failed this Dfft test where I work.

Statistically as many as 40% pass the entire psychometric process so the remaining 60% fail either one of the written tests, computer tests or the structured interview with the assessor at the end. The failure rate is not that high, and although the tests are not exactly "easy" they are certainly not near-impossible like some people fear before they go in, at least if you practiced. I'd class them as about moderate in difficulty with the structured interview being either hard or moderate depending on if you have the experience to answer the 5 core questions that they ask.

As for video games for the reactions test. I practiced on Tetris during my dinner hour many months before I took the test. I have no idea if it helped but I had nothing better to do anyway during my dinner hour. Leading up to the test I practiced on Bop It and without much practice could get 3x 250's in a row. Went in and passed the reactions test without much difficulty scoring an A or "good pass"

I do think some people will find it easy,

I found it easy as I dabbles playing the drums when I was younger however I have seen 20 applicants out of 22 fail the reaction test in the past

Yeah I agree it's not for everyone...I guess that's the whole point of the test.
