Does anyone know how many C stock trains havent been scrapped and still exist? Have any been preserved?
C stock units were 2 cars long. Thanks for the info. Thats a shame that only three coaches have been preserved. I would have thought that the London Transport Museum would have preserved a full six coach unit.

They were not highly rated except among a small cadre of afficionados
I would much rather they preserve a full A60/62 set. Are there any plans to preserve the Sandlite unit?
This comes up every now and then. Who knows for certain at this point, but the reality is that there is nowhere to store it once it's Sandite duties are handed over to the D stock units. It's also uncertain as to how much scope there is for heritage operations once the new signalling starts to come online. Heritage has been descoped from the Thales CBTC contract.
An A stock unit should be out for at least some of this season, exams all going to plan.
5721 was only recently financially secured for the Museum despite joining the collection in September 2014.As noted on wikipedia, 3 cars survived. 5721 is a static exhibit at the Acton depot,
I'm guessing this will be on sandlite duties, not in service/railtour. Where's the best place to see it?
Would it be possible to restore a 3 car C stock train back to operational working order for use on railtours I'm sure there was some speculation about it 2 years ago.
Because it's still a unit that can be uncoupled and combined with another unit to make a train. If that confuses you; then some units on the Central line have no cabs!London Underground units and formations always really confuse me. Personally though i dont see how they can call it a unit when it only has a cab at one end?

The A Stock should be out for all of this season, what else would do the work?
Also are there any C stock coaches that are still sitting in scrap yards and/or storage yards waiting to get scrapped? Or have they all been completely fully scrapped?
How about, umm, it's replacement?
And when does one expect the D78 RAT to be ready, brake tested, proven reliable, with crews trained, platforms to fill it from and paths for it to run in?
My (extremely reliable) sources are that it should share this year with the A stock, which - let's remember - was meant to have been retired by now. I am not prepared to divulge more on a public forum.
Obviously it will run when the paperwork says it will run.

Anyway. All of this is off-topic from remaining C stock units.
Not going to happen, and hasn't been expected to for some time.
I agree a lot more with Met Driver...
Taking what is essentially a brand new train and commissioning it, training people to use it, finding paths for it, and getting it to work in anger for this season is unlikely.
Some stock such as the 1973 stock on the Piccadilly line has some units made up of a DM+T+DM, but most units are DM+T+UNDM - where UNDM stands for Uncoupling Non-Driving Motor car. The UNDM cars have shunting controls at the non-cab end of the unit, so the unit can be moved in depots and coupled up to a different unit.London Underground units and formations always really confuse me. Technically that would be DM+T+UNDM for single ended units and UDM+ST+UDM for double ended units.
It's also the case for D78 stock and IIRC 1983TS. 86TS and 92TS went for super short units and did away with double enders, but dod have more A-B units than B-C and B-C(D) units. 95 and 96 TS has no double enders. 09TS has a shunting position in the MS cars but uses an SPC with jumpers. I dont think S Stock has any.
