Can anyone help me with a workaround here please. I need to get from Preston to Edinburgh. My plan was to get the last TPE Northbound and be there early morning. However, I remembered that the Highland sleeper does stop there. Is there a workaround where I can use the sleeper to get between Preston and Edinburgh as I notice its "does not stop to set down" at Edinburgh.

I'd want this to be quite cheap so the seated sleeper coach. Disabled Person's Railcard held. Thanks guys!

No.

But you can go from Preston to Inverkeithing or Falkirk, then go back to Edinburgh.

Or book to somewhere on the FW, and conveniently get off at Edinburgh when changing coaches? The station must be open in some form as the FW portion is a day train from Edinburgh - unless they just let the people in for that then lock it again?

Nothing, as long as you paid the fare to the next stop, which on the FW portion would be Dalmuir.

I doubt they would care that much if you just left at Edinburgh.

Edinburgh Waverley looked quite unwelcoming and eerily empty to me when I did the Highland Sleeper, changing into the Day Coaches at Waverley. However, I don't know whether or not you can actually exit the station via a public exit.

How much would this cost? If its affordable perhaps a word with the guard might help upon boarding.

They have to let people enter the station to board the 0450 to Fort William!

You can find the price of an Advance Seat from Preston to Dalmuir on the Caledonian Sleeper website at https://www.sleeper.scot/

Alternatively a normal walk-up ticket will do, but a seat reservation would be required.
