It's such a shame I missed it!

Passengers at East Croydon station were treated to a unique sight when a steam locomotive passed through the station yesterday.

The Christmas Sussex Bell hauled by the steam locomotive Tangmere, arrived from Victoria via Selhurst in a cloud of smoke and steam at about 11.26.

Staff at the station made special announcements for train enthusiasts to mark the occasion.

The Tangmere was retracing its former route on the line, being the former Southern Railway Battle of Britain class steam locomotive No. 34067.

Reducing to a crawl as it passed through the station the vintage train was packed with luxury diners and enthusiasts who enjoyed a trip to Eastbourne and Hastings.

I Was lucky enough to be on that train, it was most enjoyable, had enough time in Eastbourne to have a quick lunch and sit by the sea for a little while. The route down via the Brighton Mainline, then along the coast to Hastings and back via Robertsbridge, Tunbridge Wells was very interesting. The general running and timings were very good too. Overall a great day out. :D
