Evening all

I’ve just won this gem on eBay, it’s the builders plate off the 57 End of a 156.

I’m just curious to know where these would originally have been mounted when leaving the factory.

Pictures attached obviously show it has two mounting holes, but the back of the plate is stepped, as if it wasn’t quite a flush fit.

Any help much appreciated.

They're fitted to the inner vehicle end next to the corridor connection.

Higher up I believe, half way up the doors rings a bell. I wouldn't go shouting about it as unless the ROSCO has taken to flogging them off which would be surprising it's quite possibly stolen goods.

I can’t say I’ve ever actually noticed them being apparent, so it wouldn’t at all surprise me if they’ve come off a lot earlier in their lives, probably for that reason - and if it is that reason, then I don’t think there’ll be a witch-hunt for it.

I think all of ours have them still fitted, quite possibly because they're not very obvious.

You can just see it next to the jumper socket next to the corridor connection on the left side.

I have a few similar plates off 313's I think.
They were surplus plates disposed of as scrap from BREL York and never fitted or painted.
That seems plausible, as these seem to be fairly common:

Auction dates of Nov 2021 & Oct 2020.
