World's apart from GWR's rapid introduction of their 36 802s.... First one into passenger traffic August 2018. Last one by April this year I believe. 8 months then and 14 of them are 9 car too so more carriages in total.
The slower introduction is because of a lack of ability to free up train crew for traction training. GWR weren’t training three new fleets at the same time. You mustn’t forget that delivery of the TPE fleets was supposed to be consecutive instead of parallel.

I don't think the TPE ones have given anyone any air-con showers yet though......

GWR and Hitachi had already brought lots of similar Class 800s into service by the time they got on to the 802s, so it was hardly surprising the latter were introduced at a rate of knots.

The introduction of the GWR 800s in 2017-18 was hardly a cakewalk, with months of training time lost in the middle of 2017 because electrical interference issues meant they could not get access to the Reading-Didcot section for familiarisation running. Some GWR drivers were learning other traction as well as IETs, due to developments like the build-up of the new Worcester depot around the same time.

Late 2017 and the first half of 2018 in much of GWR-land were a painful experience all round but reliability and punctuality has been transformed since then.

As others have noted, training on the units is a big issue. If you’d prefer the appalling level of HSS cancellations that GWR experienced for many months whilst it was transitioning from the HSTs to IETs then I’m sure TPE could arrange it.

Yes but according the other TPE threads there has been many cancellations already, often a passenger service cancelled for a training path. Plus GWR were coping with a network been electrified at the same time. Of course it's the passengers suffering for longer as they have to endure crowded 185's for longer.

Only a handful were cancelled for a training path and this was signed off by the Rail North Partnership apparently. Every TOC seems to go through this, those who travel around the country see what it does. LNER did it, GWR did it. No different for TPE.

Cancellations were few and were limited to Class 802 and the level of congestion on the route.

Class 397 is training in the class 5 LIV - GLC paths and initial MkVa was off route with the rest 'in service'.

They'd have to endure the 185s for even longer if they didn't cancel some paths for training.

Well GWR passengers were suffering with overcrowded HSTs and Turbos, Sprinters etc as well.
