i want to go on friday morning and come back on sunday, the NR website has quoted a cheapest fare of £113 is that the walk on fare do you think ??? i dont want to be tied to certain trains
Without splitting and without advance fares, yes, £113.30 would be the cheapest walk on fare. Are you eligible for a railcard?
Splitting the journey into a combination of tickets is unlikely to help. In fact, some intermediate journeys actually cost more (e.g. Congleton to Aviemore or Manchester to Inverness).
From experience, splitting at Edinburgh may do the trick. Outside of school holidays, knock-down advances (and Advance Firsts) can be had a few weeks before on the Highland Chieftain from Edinburgh to Inverness
