The CLPG's first charter train since 2019 will be on Saturday, April 22nd, starting from Oxford at 06.00 and picking up at the main Cotswold Line stations to Worcester Shrub Hill, then running to Paignton, with calls to set down passengers en route at Taunton and Exeter St David's.

The return working will run Paignton-Exeter-Taunton, then to Oxford and teminates at Worcester.

The service will be worked by a GWR nine-car IET.

Full details and booking information are available on the CLPG's new website at https://clpg.online

Due to the closure of the Didcot to Oxford line, because of the problems at Nuneham Viaduct over the River Thames, the CLPG charter train from Oxford to Paignton has been cancelled. The empty stock for the train and the return journey from Devon were both due to cross the bridge.

More information and details of refunds are available at https://clpg.online/2023/04/bridge-closure-forces-cancellation-of-clpg-charter-train/

The CLPG is aiming to arrange a new date for a train to Devon in the autumn.

Why bother chartering an IET anyway, most railway enthusiasts hate them and GWR cannot provide enough in daily service anyway.

I don't think it was aimed at enthusiasts. The CLPG had done a good job of notifying all the local papers about this, so it was getting a fair amount of press coverage. They were clearly aiming the trip more at Joe Public.
