Can anybody tell me if the automatic ticket barriers are still in use at Coventry.

I believe Virgin introduced them on a 6 month trial two years ago (I may be wrong) but as Virgin have not installed any others i was wondering if Virgin deemed the trial unsuccesfull?

Thanks

Nope they are taped out of use now and have been for a few months now. Occasionally there is someone on the barrier checking tickets

Apparently they were taken out of use to to H&S fears due to peak hour congestion causing dangerous tailbacks towards the platform, as a former commuter on the line, they were a nightmare often it was quicker to get from Brum Intl to Cov than it was to get through the barriers

Yeah there were big queues when they were in use. It was much quicker to have someone on the gate checking tickets.

Last time I was in Coventry - quite a while ago - the barriers were not working properly, and a Virgin guy was looking at tickets then handing people a ticket to operate the barriers.
