Hi

During a trip on trains this will be part of my itinery:

1845 Bournemouth - Stafford 2229
2234 Stafford - Crewe/Preston for the Highland sleeper to Inverness. I know that whichever I choose it'll be an hour wait, so I'm thinking Crewe at the minute purely because I'll get more sleep, but would Preston station be better for an hour

Thanks :)

Surely you want to get on the sleeper as early as possible to get as much sleep as possible? That is, unless you're going seated, in which case it might not matter as much...

Neither are particularly exciting imo, but Preston has the free internet point for you to play with

I've decided neither!

I'll do this:

1845 Bournemouth - New St 2149
2236 New St - Crewe 2343
2354 Crewe - Inverness

Thanks anyways :)

i would do everything I could to get the sleeper the full length from Euston, I know its a ball ache going into London, but you get time on the sleeper for a couple of drinks and a meal and can head to bed by the time you get to crewe. When I get the Caledonian Sleeper, I always travel down from Nottingham to London to get the sleeper at Euston.

Yeah, I would but since I'm coming from Bouremouth and I cant leave any earlier, then thats the only ay of doing it. Luckily I'm going to Inverness so I'll still get 8 & 1/2 hours sleep. And while I was checking this out, I found out by getting the highland sleeper to dunblane, and changing for a train to Edinburgh is quicker than the lowland by an 1 hour roughly, and it works at Westerton if your heading to Glasgow!

Shame you can't do the full journey, its fantastic. I am doing the Fort William run in December, the only one of the 3 Caledonian Sleeper trips I am yet to do in both directions, Can't wait, And I am going right round the houses to get to London and back!

If its your first trip on the Caledonian Sleeper then sit back, relax and enjoy it, but make sure you get in the lounge car for a beer or two!

Crewe's a big station with 12 platforms (17 prior to modernisation in the 1980s), and remember your connecting train from New Street might be late.

Preston has free wifi? Damn, I wish I knew that when I was there back when I went on the West Highlander tour.

I would make your choice based on the back up plan for what happens if you miss one of the connections!

Shame you can't or don't want to leave BMH any earlier as 1759 to WAT and tube to EUS seems much, much safer.
