My pal asked me to investigate trainfares from Exeter to Sheffield.

All they could find for a specific train was an 0827 departure at £143 (via Cross Country Trains.)
In the meantime I found the same train for £82 via TrainPal.

The silly moo has only gone and booked with CrossCountry. I am sure the answer is no, but do they have a cooling off period? :D

What is the ticket type? If it is a flexible ticket you are able to cancel it for a refund (there will be an admin fee).

If it is an advance - no there is no cooling off period and no refund.

Not sure about CrossCountry but most retailers offering free refunds for any reason within two hours of booking.

I think Trainline's period is only 15 minutes, but I'm not totally sure if that extends to the TOC whitelabels. Safe to say, by the time you've both discussed this, posted here, we've answered, you've relayed it, and they've actioned it, you'd probably be out of time anyway!

Thank you for the replies.

It's an Advance ticket. So annoyed that someone asked for me advice, I saved them over £60 but they'd booked in the meantime. The whole conversation was 15 minutes. Why ask advice while doing your own thing?

Apparently XC had "limited availability" next to the fare. I checked and there were still 9 tickets available at the fare of £143.

£143.00 seems to be an Advance Single, route "XC Only" in Std Class.

What's the £82.00 fare? Does that include added fees?

What's the journey date? The forum's site should always find splits at least as good as Trainpal, and usually better! Very rarely it might not do, in which case if you let us know, we can usually get the required adjustments implemented by the next day or two.

It may be cheaper using Trainpal if there is no 'finders fee' however be aware that many people have experienced poor customer support from Trainpal, so that is a factor that does need to be considered, as you never know when you may need to contact customer services...

Sorry I completely forgot about the ticketing site here :( Given the £143 paid, a finders fee would be small fry.
