Says it all really, I’m heading out to Locomotion and don’t want to drag my bag to Shilton and back needlessly - can anyone advise? TIA

I recently used Stasher.com to store my bags at a Premier Inn for the day. Worked out about £7 per day. Google Maps suggests the Premier Inn is 8 minutes walk from Darlington station.

Sadly we don't seem to believe in left luggage lockers in this country anymore so it's either full scale storage with a manned counter or nothing. So as advised, there's nothing at Darlington station itself.

Shame - I’ll need to drag it round with me instead. Glasgow just installed a version at Buchanan Bus Station and I wondered if they were coming back into fashion!

For some reason, thankfully it never seemed to die out in Scotland vs the rest of England and Wales. Travelling across the South West last week I felt that these would have been useful down there - indeed one local business in Penzance seems to have taken this idea on.

Resigned to lugging my bag to Shildon, I entered Locomotion and (unlike NRM who wanted a non refundable £3) they kindly offered to stick my bag under the Info Desk as I navigated the site! This is making the whole visit more pleasant!

(And if truth be told, I much prefer Locomotion than the kiddies playground that is NRM!

Yes I visited Locomotion a few months ago (first time in more than a decade I reckon!) and was very impressed actually. They've done a very good job of having a lot of stuff on display but still well organised and telling some interesting stories about it. I particularly thought that the exhibits in their new hall were quite well thought out and told a reasonably coherent story.

Either way I thought it was an impressive museum and I also agree the staff all seemed very friendly as well!

Locomotion is a great museum, especially when compared to York. Its great that you can combine it with a visit to Hopetown too.
Shame the cafe at Shildon isn't as good
