There is a DART unit - 8627 - currently stabled at Drogheda, and want to ask, how would it have got there (would a DMU have dragged it or a loco?) and why would it be at Drogheda?

DART EMUs are regularly brought to Drogheda for the use of the wheel lathe. They are dragged there by 29000 DMUs.

They also do bogie swaps there. One of the benefits of IE making sure all its DMU/EMU couplers are mechanically compatible.

Common enough, you'll occasionally see them dragged to Inchicore by 29000 CAFs as well.

Much more efficient than in loco hauled days, when they'd often be sent to Grand Canal Dock to run around to avoid clogging up Connolly. Miss the sound of a Bo-Bo chugging across the city with one in tow though.

Bogie changes are not carried out in Drogheda for the EMU fleet. That is carried out at the home depot in Fairview.

They are. Not always, but on occasion.

The adapter coupling for loco to Dart is sitting on top of a container in Fairview depot. Unused for years.
