Hi, I'm doing some research into Darwen station in Lancashire, England.
Can anyone tell me if it was initially named 'Over Darwen' station, then renamed 'Darwen' in 1883.
Wikipedia suggests is was but I can't find any evidence to back this up.
Can anyone help?

Michael Quick's comprehensive book 'Railway Passenger Stations - a chronology' records the station as opening 3 August 1847 as 'Over Darwen' and being renamed 'Darwen' on 1 December 1883. The entry has the cross reference 'see Lower Darwen' which retained the term 'Lower' until closure 3 November 1958.

Go to https://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm
This site allows you to see various maps, overlay them and scroll around. It has current OS, old OS, geological and other stuff.
not all the images cover the whole UK.
at the top are the controls
Click the binoculars and input then select darwen
the 2 left controls are for layers
Click the most left one and select 'OS'. That gives you current OS 1:50,000 map
Click the next one right and select Historical OS
that gives you an old OS map
As you move your mouse around 1 image, you get a second blue pointer for the same place on the other image
You can see Darwen has 2 stations, one closed one to the south of the existing one
You can also see the LMS branch to Hoddleston
You can drag the little yellow man to a place on the image to see current google street view
Nice site
