Are the DCR 60s now proving to be reasonably reliable?

028, 029 & 046 all seem to be running well, 055 has had a lesser workload recently but whether that's because of a recurring fault or simply from cycling three at work and one spare I don't know, not sure if you saw it but there was an uncorroborated rumour that DCR are in the frame for one or more of the 60s that DBC put up for sale a couple of months back, we shall see .....

There is a large tungsten mine (Drakelands Mine) near Hemerdon but I don’t think it’s reopened yet. I know that there’s been a lot of work going on to get it to the point of being viable and there’s a huge amount of tin-tungsten down there.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens.

Ah, the two loading points that Tungsten West mentioned were Hemerdon Up Loop and also the sidings at Tavistock Junction. These two seems reasonable but Hemerdon Up Loop is restricted on space. I had not heard about the possibilioty of Hackney Yard. If the timber work continues and this goes ahead then Hackney Yard could actually be half busy again.

I would imagine that they're doubting the capability of one single loco on Hemerdon. I can neber understand why they don't double head the China Clay train to save a return working in two portions. Same here, just stick two locos on it. It has to be better than sending it by road to NA.

You would think that Marsh Mills would be cheaper seeing as it’s only 10 minutes down the road as opposed to around 30-40 minutes in the case of Hackney Yard.

Hackney has been vacant for years and hasn’t done much heavy bulk freight work for decades so if this stone flow did happen it would be good. Not sure what the train lengths would be mind you, what’s a class 60 capable of hauling?

All other freight in this area is once a week (China Clay, logs etc.) but, due to the vast quantities, it’s possible this could be the only more regular flow in the area.

I've seen nothing other than rumour, DCR are said to be a/the successful bidder for the last batch of fourteen DBC 60s, whether that means one, fourteen or anything in between is yet to be confirmed as is where any refurbishment would take place or who would do it. I don't believe Cappagh are involved directly with HS2 other than through DCR aggregate deliveries, they have a website which gives details on the various areas of civil construction they are involved in
