It might need some steps at the bottom of the doors.
Looking smart
I've never liked the indented headlights always makes it look boxy they should be flush.

Is it me or does the cab end look a little ugly now? I wonder if it would have looked better with either the front being yellow all over or the blue continuing around the lower part of the front

There is a 165 running around at the moment with the lower skirt fully painted blue, leaving an almost Chiltern Style smaller yellow warning panel - which i'll admit does look rather smart!

I think one of the problems with this picture are those LEDs, giving it that bug eyed look again.

Still no internal pics is the train even in service yet?

The 166s may have been refurbished recently but on a recent trip I noticed battered tables ill fitting side panels and filthy carpets

Wonder if the declassified First Class has reverted to ordinary seats and if plug ins for laptops have been fitted yet

Is that a nameplate on the side of the leading Driving Car? Guess we can see where the Universal Loo has been installed by the plated over windows!

It is, although it's one of those slightly tacky vinyl efforts - 166221 "Reading Train Care Depot''.

I'm intrigued to see the interior mods done. Anybody know exactly what they are aside from the new loo? I assume 166221 and other units to follow will have new door sounders and buttons?

I also hope mods have been made to the PIS so that it works properly.

It looks much better repainted in plain blue, and I think it makes the new light clusters fit in much better. The new lights look very unbalanced against the old livery.

It's probably had the former First Class end deconverted down to match that of Standard Class, I'd like to hope that these mods to the 166s & 165s will eventually include a bike space too!

By the looks of that picture I'd say it hasn't entered service yet as it looks as if the door steps haven't been refitted.

166221 is currently parked up at the end of a siding at Reading depot. Clearly visible when travelling towards Swindon/oxford. Its been there all week when I've been going past and doesn't appear to have moved in that time, if it has its bot gone for long and ended up in the same place each time.

I'm afraid the usual answer is, No. Don't know what is up with it, but it's still sat in the same road in Reading Depot as it has been for the past few weeks now.

It has been in the shed during the daytime. From previous experience with stock refurbishments/refresh they generally come back from works with more faults than what they went with!!
Some of the minor detailing (branding etc) has been carried out at Reading depot as well.

Class 166s have always had an area that can take 2/3 bikes in the centre car, along with a set of three tip-up seats that can also be put up to make room for a bike.

Until 165s move from Paddington commuter duties, the chance of any cycle space being provide is probably zero - any seat is too valuable to lose right now.

Looks like she's out and about now.

Bit of a tight squeeze down past the new toilet

That layout certainly looks odd - You've got the disabled area between the vestibule and bog, then two wall type structures, with two seats facing into the toilet, then a row of single seats next to the toilet - where 450 style tip up seats would probably be better.

The actual module looks to be the same as the AGA 156s - the Grey panelling and Red doors give it away. It might be a visual trick of the eye from that picture, but it rather looks like they've tried to wedge it all into one corner too!

Why on earth would you specify an enormous mirror consisting of three panels on a DOO train where antisocial behaviour is rife?! Crazy, that'll be the first 'modification' in a few months time; reduce it to the one panel.

That flooring in the toilet is identical to that applied to 150261
