On most EMR 3 coach 170 there are small declassified first class areas. They are great.

Armrests all seemed broken and wouldn't stay up whenever I sat in them with TfW. Tables and recline buttons also missing on some. The ex-Anglia Railways 201-208 units had the best 1st class by far.
Enjoy it while you can as it’s being removed during refurb I believe.

158889, ex SWTThe EMR 158 with a small declassified section, is some of the most comfortable seating on the network![]()

From TfW you'd be luckyYes I very much doubt they received any TLC after leaving us.
It is great. I travelled to Nottingham on one.The ex-Anglia Railways 201-208 units had the best 1st class by far.

On the former Midland Mainline sets 101-110, yes; Anglia sets only had First class in one driving car.Used to be first class in the middle section of the 50-car too with a buffet counter in the centre car.

Sorry, I've re-read your post and I see what I've misunderstood. I thought you had said First Class and buffet in the centre car, as in both together in the centre car as per the ten new centre cars delivered to MM in 2001 to extend ten of their seventeen 170/1s. What you actually were saying was one driving car was all First Class, then the centre car had the buffet. No, they had 1st class in all the 50-car except the disabled area which is what I said. Buffet in the centre car.

Now that I've cleaned me glasses, so to speak, I apologise for the misunderstanding.
The Hull Trains sets were like the Anglia ones, and for many years after transfer to First ScotRail, the First Class driving car on these had the middle First Class all declassified and only the 7-seat cabin behind the cab used as actual First Class. That would've been the best declassified First Class up here at least as while the Express 170s work many Std only services, the First Class isn't quite as improved as on some units. The 2012 conversions even have the same seats as Std!
One National Express and Scotrail both removed the buffet cars as well. They were always a big waste of capacity for short trains.Sorry, I've re-read your post and I see what I've misunderstood. While seldom used after transfer, the ScotRail ex-HT units kept the buffet counters intact until relatively recently (about 2016/17), the First Class seating was removed in 2012 though. One National Express and Scotrail both removed the buffet cars as well. Not sure about that, one of them I travelled on recently had the seats so low to the floor my knees were sticking up uncomfortably, and I'm not so tall that I've ever had that problem on any other seat in 1st or standard. Maybe it's just one particular unit, I didn't see the number. On most EMR 3 coach 170 there are small declassified first class areas. They are great.
Maybe somebody can be more precise but the seats by the front and rear cabs of the XC 170s and I think the ex LNR ones have those Lazzarini seats crammed tight which are the ones you might be thinking of.Not sure about that, one of them I travelled on recently had the seats so low to the floor my knees were sticking up uncomfortably, and I'm not so tall that I've ever had that problem on any other seat in 1st or standard.
