Today we travelled with 3 Adults & 1 Child with a F&F Railcard from Durham to Middlesborough Off Peak Day Return costing £31.20 in total.

Trains involved were (Delays in +)...

9M36 1659 Durham - Darlington 1715 (+2)
2D54 1724 Darlington - Middlesborough 1753 (+17)

So for the outward journey I should be able to claim 12.5% of the return journey from Northern?

But coming back was worse...

2D59 2124 Middlesborough - Darlington 2154 (+10)
That should have connected for 1S32 (LNER) 2208 Darlington - Durham 2224 but for obvious sad reasons that was cancelled.
The next train from Darlington - Durham was 1P41 2253 Darlington - Durham 2309 (Arrived 2316)
So for the above should I be claiming for a 52 minute delay from LNER?

And if so what does 50% of the cost of the relevant portion of a return ticket actually mean?

There is a possibility LNER may say Northern caused the initial delay, on the basis that if the 22:08 from Darlington had run as scheduled, your late arrival at Darlington would have only given you 4 minutes to make that connection and the MCT is 5 minutes.

I would claim from one or the other, and they can forward it on if they think you're claiming from the wrong TOC. As long as it's paid...
