Hello everyone
I am hoping for some advice really or hopefully some pointers. I work for a charity which seeks learning opportunities for young disabled adults. I have a young man who is desperate for a bit of work experience in some way connected to trains, unpaid of course. He will come with care staff so no worries there, he just loves everything to do with trains. It really is his dream. Can anyone please advise? Nearest stations are Reading to Waterloo line. Thanks so much..

TfL run the Steps into Work programme with the Shaw Trust https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/careers/steps-into-work. Give either TfL or Shaw Trust a call and see what they say. Whilst it is a year long programme they will probably have the expertise to guide you.

Contacting your local train operators, which seem to be South Western Railways and GWR, might also be useful.

If the young person is still in education it is worth speaking to his school’s Careers Leader as they should be able to assist. Their name should be on the school website.

Not sure if they deal with charities but contacting your local Careers Enterprise Company might be worth a go. I use them a lot and find they have lots of interesting contacts. The Berkshire branch is at https://www.berkshireopportunities....ormation-for-educators/bean-news/cec-updates/

Local preserved railways might also be able to offer help.

That's incredibly helpful, thank you Andrew.

I'd ask at your local train station. Failing that I'd contact Network Rail and see if there is something in the office.
