Just curious really. Not saying that they should start but thameslink does and runs a similarish business as the Elizabeth line

No. The Elizabeth Line doesn't offer advances, and neither do London Overground.

Thameslink offers advances on some of its long distance services, not its local flows.

TfL has an established mechanism for charging for its services, based predominantly on Oyster and Contactless.

London Overground does, however, have specific flow/fare agreements with most TOCs for through advance fares, involving a LO leg, for example, tickets routed Avanti & Connections. There can be interesting Advance fares in the evening peak, say from Essex to Manchester via Milton Keynes that avoid Euston, but use a combination of London Overground and/or Southern instead via the likes of Kensington Olympia or Willesden.

Do they have specific agreements or are retailers simply allowing travel on non-reservable services non-discriminantly?
You need specific agreements and aportionment/settlement terms from each TOC for advance fares.

Most TOC + Connections fares have electronic restrictions that restrict what operators the connections can be used on, as per the agreements reached between each other.

This excludes London Underground/cross-London maltese cross markers - which works differently and doesn't require consent.
