I don't send cards, but my preferred means of communication is the good old-fashioned hand-written letter. It takes quite a lot of time and effort, but I find it immensely rewarding to both send and receive well-crafted, unique items of mail.

I'm thinking about sending only a handful of Christmas cards this year to close friends and my daughter. My hearts not into Christmas this year.

Normally I choose expensive birthday cards but only for special people.:wub::wub: The rest get Card factory.:D:D

I look for appropriate "funny" birthday cards, which usually go down well, and give the recipient a smile at the time.

For Christmas my list is down to about ten now, and conveniently I found a nice pack of 10 charity cards recently in (I think it was) the RSPCA shop. My closest friends (an online group of five - we go back many years) have agreed not to bother with the ritual exchanges, but I do still send to my two oldest school friends as I have for many decades. OH and I have never bothered with cards or presents, unless it's something jokey, we would rather put the money towards another trip somewhere. Ahhh..... :s

My card sending will grind to a halt once I run out of the few hundred stamps I purchased around 9 years ago when the prices were about to go up.

Normally I send cards to family, and a few acquaintances that I want to keep in touch with but don't see often. For friends I don't really bother as I'll speak to or see them in person and normally buy them a drink or something more useful!

This year, I think I will be sending more cards. They'll go to less close friends, family members such as distant cousins, and generally people I would normally see over Christmas, but can't this year.

That was the original point of greetings cards back in the Victorian era when people didn't see eachother, maybe for years on end. Unfortunately the sentiment got spoiled by a greedy industry churning out thousands of cheap glittery cards, that we all felt obliged to hand out at work in our open plan offices to everyone we had a passing acquaintance with. I always admired and envied the one person in our 50-odd office who said "sorry I don't do cards" and stuck to it. I was never quite brave enough to do the same.

This year will be sending Christmas cards to sibling, cousins etc
Not the big list from 10-20 years ago (don’t do work now, and many older relatives have died)

Too much has been online this year, so email or text would be naff

This year has been rotten, and people need cheering up, and a physical card can be put up and seen for 2-3 weeks. So will be nice local cards with local scenes, even though they cost more. Not the commercial 20 cards for a fiver in a box type cards, as they are nothing special so won’t cheer people up.
