Apologies if already posted.

There are some real challenges to working as a Passenger Service Agent on Docklands Light Railway (not least the 4 a.m. starts).

You'll be providing a service to customers who are used to high standards (we regularly win awards for our punctuality and reliability), and you'll need to communicate effectively and confidently with all kinds of people.

It can be a very difficult job but it's also a very important one. And that's why it's so well rewarded. On top of your £37,582-a-year salary*, you will enjoy numerous benefits.

Does anyone know the shift pattern for a PSA and what its like working for them? Are they are good company and is the job tough?

Would also like to know that if you fail assessment, does it count as one of your two chances or is it totally separate?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Ok I will make what I wanted to say clearer.

Has anyone received an email confirming receipt of application. Normally big companies send an AUTOMATED response confirming receipt that requires no human input. I am sure I sent my application correctly but was wondering if anyone has received anything back. If not then at least I know I haven't fluffed up sending the application.

Thank you for any HELPFUL responses.

Afternoon All,

Been reading this forum for a while, but only just registered.

Have spoke to DLR HR, they do not send out confirmation emails regarding the vacancy we have all just applied for. Even I found that abit strange.

Also earlier on, someone mentioned that the role may be over paid. If you take into consideration all the things that they carry out in thier duties, it kind of makes thier pay abit more realistic & justified.

Regards,

Not atall good luck to them Im on more then that so not an issue but i think its alot for that job itself. I know in emergencies they have to operate them but hardly the same as trudging along at 75mph is it lol.

Im not saying its justified as a mainline driver. Im stating it justfies with the role in which they carry out.

Operating the train when needed, dealing with revenue, dealing with irate customers and not really having any place of safety on the train, all the different routes they are required to know, what to do in emergencies and handling all those passengers during such times.

Its not like they can just jump off the train or go to a drivers cab. The whole train is open, so im guessing there is a high degree of flexibilty and patience required. As I said, I am not comparing to a Mainline Drivers salary, stating for what they do in thier role, I think it is justifiable.

I applied during the last recruitment drive (July-August) I think, and got invited to an assessment centre. Got through the testing stage but failed at the two-way radio stage. I was told 'by all means' to apply next time. So I did. I assumed that I was get through to the assessment centre this time as well.

Unfortunately, I got an email about an hour ago..no assessment for me.

Should have received your assessment pack in the email, confirming your assessment.

Either way it's Numerical & Verbal reasoning/comprehension tests, if you pass that then there is role plays/scenarios and finally, pass that and there is an interview. All in the same day.

What time is your assessment Monday?

Sorry to reply late to this, only just going through the thread now.

When all is said and done, it's one of the better jobs around- plenty of variety (if that's what you like), plenty of interaction with the public, great bunch of people to work with. Like any job on the railways, there's a lot of knowledge to get your head around first of all, what with all the abreviations, the way the system works etc, the layouts of both depots etc, but the trainers do a great job.

The job itself can be tough to start off with, particularly getting into the swing of the shift pattern and getting used to being on your feet for 7.5 - 8 hours a day. If you fail the assessment there's nothing stopping you re-applying at the next opportunity.

Someone also asked how the shift pattern works (sorry, I really have no idea how to "multi-quote" from various posts.)

The shift pattern is basically 4 on, 2 off, some weeks you'll work 5 late shifts (finishing between 8pm and midnight) then have 2 days off and you'll work blocks of weekends (normallly 4 in a row), then have a few weekends off. Earliest start (currently) is 0430, latest book-off (currently) is 0155 and you'll work the whole variety of shifts with all sorts of start and finish times and you'll also work all routes of the railway
