I'm in the rather fortunate position of having previously been a psa for 5 years and now a mainline driver for Greater Anglia. I can tell you that psa's earn every penny of that 37k!
There is a hell of a lot more to the job than what people see. If you can handle being in with passengers all day long, standing for long periods, checking tickets, being in the firing line all day then the job is for you. It's not a bad job at all and I enjoyed my time there. Just prefer to be in a cab these days! You are licenced to drive the dlr trains too. You learn basic traction, you have to find faults, manually drive the trains in the depots and in the event of failures.
Be patient if you have applied, they do take their time with recruitment.
