They're also working on a tender for the supply of new passenger coaches which should be delivered in 2022.
There's some news about this tender: DSB have selected Talgo to build them. Talgo will supply eight sets of 200 km/h coaches, which should enter service from June 2023 onwards.

DENMARK: National operator DSB has selected Talgo to supply a fleet of locomotive-hauled coaches to operate international services to and from Hamburg.

The contract announced on February 5 covers eight sets of coaches, which are expected to enter service from June 2023. As an iteration of the company’s Talgo 230 platform, they will follow on from the similar Talgo ECx inter-city trainsets ordered by DB.

The DSB rakes will be suitable for operation at up to 200 km/h, and will have a capacity of at least 440 passengers, facilities for wheelchair users, multi-purpose areas for prams and bicycles, charging points for electric bikes, CCTV, passenger information screens and vending machines offering hot and cold drinks and snacks.

The coaches will be operated in a top-and-tail configuration with Siemens Mobility Vectron locomotives which DSB ordered in 2018 for delivery from this year.

I will be very excited to see what the new rakes of coaching stock that have been ordered look like... although I doubt I will get to see my wish of a DSB dining car or bistro fulfilled.

Sadly it seems like there will be vending machines only. But there have been rumours that SJ is looking at returning to Denmark, which would mean that there will be a bistro.

Strangely, I got served a promoted tweet from Eurosparet, who are doggedly plugging away at the campaign for a second DK/SE crossing. The image in the tweet cites a slide from a SJ presentation with medium and long term plans for international rail.

And the seats won't be as comfortable!

Europaspåret are lobbying for the second crossing to a bit further south than the Helsingborg-Helsingör route which is usually mentioned.

Probably, but a 200 km/h train might cut the travel time by a few minutes, depending on the progress of the Danish ETCS-introduction.

The order will have less to do with the speed of the trainset and more with the fact that DB has already ordered Talgo sets and Talgo probably offered a good price to DSB for a follow-on order. That, and buying a fleet that will already have been approved Germany will make cross-border services easier.

But........ they've now got to interface the Talgo stock with the Vectron locos DSB already have on order. The far, far more sensible approach would have been to order Railjet sets - at least that way loco and stock would have been from the same manufacturer (Siemens).

"Interface" it? Couple it up with a screw coupling and buffers, connect up the two-pipe air brake and maybe a UIC standard push-pull system and off you go. They do things simpler than we do over there.

To be fair, there isn't an awful lot more than that to coupling a 68 to Mk5a coaches, it's CS that have gone super-complex with the Dellners.

In slightly related news, DSB has asked Siemens if two of the ordered Vectrons can be delivered with Swedish ATC, so they might have other plans than just Germany for the new trains.

Interesting. Start in Malmö perhaps? If they plan to go any deeper into Sweden then the howls of complaint about the lack of catering will be voluminous.

Perhaps they are preparing to provide haulage through Denmark. Remember that ÖBB quietly published a call for interested rolling stock providers last year, seeking sleepers and couchettes to be maintained in Hamburg and operable in Denmark and Sweden. Regardless of the Trafikverket programme, they may be assessing their own commercial Nightjet service from Hamburg northwards. They would also need someone to haul it.

Talgo will be supplying spare parts, maintenance will be done by DSB itself.

Maybe they are considering actually involving themselves with the proposed sleeper train? Trains are certainly getting more popular.
