153310 and 153326 have left the fleet last week for a retirement holiday in the West Midlands and are unlikely to return to the East Midlands.

They are on loan to West Midlands Railway for use over in the Birmingham area but as they are due to be withdrawn at the end of December they are unlikely to return to the East Midlands. To compensate East Midlands Railway got 156503 from Scot Rail.

I could live with purple as a highlight colour, but the 222 unit is overwhelming and just looks miserable. I suspect the units leaving will remain in current colour schemes and only the retained for life of the franchise units getting a new colour scheme when the interiors are freshened up with new seat covers etc

The HSTs are not planned to stay beyond the end of next year, which is why there has been so much to'ing-and-fro'ing about whether they would transfer.

There will be a few liveries, by my reckoning at worst theres Red/vtec HST, EMT white HST/222/158, plain blue ex scotrail 170, wmt 170, xc 170 (I believe theres a little swap of 2 for 3 cars mentioned somewhere unless just the centre cars move), southern 170, plain white 158, plain blue 156, EMT blue 153+156, First unbranded 360 and EMR 222+repaints so that's 11 liveries at worst although some will be very short lived I imagine and may not be seen at all.
I very much doubt theyll beat any records, original EMT particularly the 153s and 158s were in an array of colour schemes before the refurb programmed and Northern mk1 while they eventually started rolling out the brand had a massive selection of liveries.

In the early days of EMT some of the 158's were debranded Northern Spirit Transpennine purple with debranded First Transpennine blue stripe, with Central brackets, with EMT logos on top. If you count that as four different liveries on a single train, EMR have a long way to go yet.

Very true and have been for some time. I reported a loose power socket to EMT last year or the year before. There was another wobbly socket on a 222 last week I think. Both were at table seats.

The Scotland's Railway Saltire livery unit is 156503. Not sure the idea behind the white 158's (minus Stagecoach swirls); that may have been answered already.

I did note this evening that 156410 is now also sporting a nice new paint job. Oh hang-on...it's been tagged by graffiti artists.

I travelled through Nottingham and Derby yesterday and noticed all the staff are still wearing EMT uniforms (albeit with the EMR purple tie). It's more noticeable now that the cold weather is here and they are wearing the fleeces with East Midlands Trains embroidered into them.

I noticed some of the take care on the stairs signs had been replaced but everything else is the same. To be honest, apart from the stickers over everything, it does still feel like EMT are running the services.

These things do take time to implement but it seems Abellio are reluctant to put their stamp on anything - the focus is 'new trains are coming' but that's not for a few years and I find it hard to understand why they wouldn't be wanting to establish their new brand elsewhere like stations and staff in the meantime.

I don't have much time for Stagecoach or EMT for various reasons so will admit I am keen to see the back of anything related to them but even so it feels that progress is slow. I'm happy to be corrected here but with other franchises such as GWR, VTEC/LNER it felt like there was much more of a 'big bang' when the new branding was introduced.

Abellio is making so little impact on the franchise that it makes you wonder what the short-term aims and objectives are. Just a neutral white livery. 405 will be the same. I wouldn't expect it to gain anything other than the usual branding at some stage.
