Will there be any immediate passenger benefits or changes when this is completed?

Two extra fast paths per hour for long distance services (an increase from six to eight). Due for December 2021 timetable change but reliant on some other stuff.

Apologies, I'm late to this thread. Do we know what the 2 new paths will be used for. The current is XX00 Edinburgh, XX03 Leeds, XX06 York/Lincoln, XX30 Edinburgh, XX33 Leeds for LNER with the other path for GC/HT, does anyone have a view of what it looks like from Dec 21? I'm not bothered about the departure minutes, 2tph Edinburgh, 2tph Leeds, 0.5tph York and 0.5tph Lincoln format is fine.

From December 2021 there will be 3 tph as far as Newcastle (There is a thread about this) and 0.5 tph to Middlesborough, not to mention the First East Coast open access service.

I wouldn't bet on seeing any early service enhancements given the economic damage being caused by the Coronavirus crisis.
In many ways it's surprising the infrastructure upgrades (including the ECML resignalling) are going ahead seemingly to schedule.
Planning these things with all the constraints must be a nightmare at the moment.

I realise I'm into heavy speculation territory here, but it's always seemed to me to be worthwhile investigating the possibility of a Peterborough North station on the Spalding route with Thameslinks extended there, which would remove most of the remaining at-grade crossings in the Peterborough area, as well as reducing road congestion around Peterborough station itself. I realise the rail industry itself has neither funds for, nor interest in, reducing localised travel problems.

I can't see that route being wired. Thameslink trains fixed and too long too. I could instead see a service like the Ipswich being extended to add some connectivity via Ely, but Cambridge surely is what folks would be aiming for.

Thanks for the responses - definitely exciting to see plans for better ECML frequencies. Do these also depend on some of the other works (Kings X tunnel/approaches, quadding ~ Huntingdon) and so forth, or are those on top of this?

Kings Cross has to be done first.
