Hi all,

Two questions: First, am I remembering correctly that the ticket machine at Edinburgh airport is card-only or does it take cash? Second, if it's card-only is it possible to buy 'EDB AIRPORT BUS/TRAM' tickets online anywhere or is it only that machine or at the station?

I ask because I've a friend arriving there next week and it's looking like I won't be able to meet them at the airport due to last-minute changes at work. I'm a bit worried that the machine won't let them buy a ticket using their Brazilian debit card as I had problems using my UK card some places when I was over there.

Thanks in advance.

I haven't bought a that ticket since the trams opened. Typically scotrail ticket machines are card only. (Although this is unlikely to be hit it may take cash)

Beware, if you are changing at Edinburgh Park and heading west buy separate tickets, it is cheaper, I found out the hardway when buying from the station. (The ticket is valid via Haymarket putting the price up)

Thanks, but they'll be heading north so it would either be change at Haymarket or Inverkething.

On the screen you get offered both options. For example if you hit Dundee it will give you the option of route Haymarket or route Inverkeithing.

Thanks again. Ideally, since my friend only speaks English as a second language (and I don't remember Portuguese being a language option on the TOD machines), my preference would be booking tickets for collection to avoid her ending up with the wrong ticket. Plus, as I mentioned above, I'm not confident that the machine will recognise a Brazilian debit card.

Edinburgh Trams website (http://edinburghtrams.com/tickets) states:
Buy your ticket before you board
Every tram stop has ticket vending machines where you can buy Single Tickets and DAYtickets. Return Tickets are also available for journeys to or from Edinburgh Airport only. Our ticket vending machines accept most debit and credit cards as well as 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2 coins. No change is given.

I suspect that using the Prepayment Mobile App (http://lothianbuses.com/plan-a-journey/fares-and-tickets/mobile-apps-ticketing) would be a challenge
Buy tickets with the Transport for Edinburgh app and turn your phone into your ticket. Purchase tickets at a time convenient for you, then just activate one and show your phone to the driver when you get on the bus (for Lothian Buses) or to the Ticket Services Assistant when boarding a tram. Tickets are easy to buy and can be used straight away or saved for future trips. To purchase m-tickets you will require a valid debit or credit card, or Barclays Pingit. Minimum spend is £10

I phoned Scotrail tele-sales and they can't sell the combined ticket either, so I'll have to hope that the machine is able to take payment using her card or just buy the bus/tram ticket with cash and collect a pre-booked ticket at Haymarket/Inverkeithing (using TheTrainline and paying by paypal so that it will work with any card).

Thanks to all who replied.

I did have a feeling you can't collect at the airport when ordering online. When does she arrive. I am passing through the airport next week so can check if it takes cash.
