The first version of my Edinburgh Express Bus Map is now available. It is a semi-diagrammatic map which aims to show express and limited-stop bus routes in Edinburgh in as clear a fashion as possible. It also shows the entire route of Lothian Buses' peak-time Express services such as the X26.

You can download or view the file here, or go to this address if the link doesn't work: https://github.com/40414148/Transport-Published/raw/main/Maps/Edinburgh%20Express/EdinburghExpressNetwork.pdf
Alternatively click here to view the file on GitHub; this will let you see when it was last updated.
These links will always take you to the most recent file version and will never change for as long as the file remains online.

My map shows routes which generally operate at least once a day, across multiple operators. The frequency of which each service runs is shown in the Key on the map.

I believe the map to be correct as of the 26th of January 2023 but if you see anything which needs correcting then please do leave a comment in this thread.
Any feedback is very welcome.

I've put an image preview below, note that this may not be updated when I release new versions of the map.

I notice you've added a lot of non express / limited stop routes into this map. Have these only been implemented because they run alongside a limited stop service (e.g the 22 & 30 in your image above operating alongside the X27/8)?

Yes, non-express services are shown where they run parallel to express services. Where the non-expresses diverge I've put the icon with a little arrow to show that they go away off and do something else. The exception is if they are orbital services e.g. 12 between King's Buildings and King's Road, 400 etc., which are shown in full in areas where they operate as orbitals.

looks good, the below points are meant as comments rather than criticism:

I’m not sure about the little arrows, which might suggest a one-way service to anyone unfamiliar?

The 40 serves Ratho

If you’re including the Airport then do you include the AIR or 747 which are “Express” services but do also serve Ingliston? I appreciate your not going to show the non-stop coach to Dundee but what about Ember?

The numbers just to the east of the Bridges refer to services over North Bridge/ South Bridge, but it’s quite close to Regent Road , so a novice might assume that their bus goes there instead?

I think that the X28 has diverged from the main road (to Kirknewton) before the edge of your map?

But, I’m impressed!

This is a great map. Thanks for doing this. It’s actually nice to see it like this rather than having to look at a map from each operator (if there is one) :)

Thanks, yeah that's true. I could add a little label onto each one but that would just clutter things I think. And adding a bit to the Key is only helpful if people remember to look there.
Would it work to also have another arrow facing the other way? so there would be the route number in the coloured box and then an arrow facing away from the express route and one facing towards?
That might be too complicated though.
The 40 serves Ratho
Oh yes so it does, I'll add that to the todo list.

At the moment I'm going with "no", as the AIR and 747 don't either go to the City Centre nor provide an orbital route like the 40/X40.
Yes I was meaning to add Ember but I forgot.
The numbers just to the east of the Bridges refer to services over North Bridge/ South Bridge, but it’s quite close to Regent Road , so a novice might assume that their bus goes there instead?
Hm I'll see if I can move them.
I think that the X28 has diverged from the main road (to Kirknewton) before the edge of your map?
Yes you're right actually, about a centimetre away from the edge of the map :D
But, I’m impressed!
Thanks.
After I've finished with this I'm planning on going back to my Fife Express map because I haven't updated it since the recent changes.

Yeah I know, it seems to be a "problem" (or am I just making a mountain out of a molehill?) in a lot of areas. West Lothian and Glasgow are the two I've already done but as far as I know there's no such map for Fife (even Stagecoach don't produce one for their own services any more?)... there will be more but I can't think of them right now.

New post, 2023 02 02 0034hrs:
what about Ember?
I've decided to exclude Ember, as I've discovered that it only stops at intermediate points if prebooked.
I'm also going to exclude Megabus and Citylink services up the A90 as these are not really designed or suitable for taking short distances within Edinburgh or West Lothian.
