I often see that it's booked via East Usk, however it very rarely actually does that. It often just sits at cwmbran for about 10 minutes
I think the possession is usually given up early but you can't bank on that. If it is booked via East Usk then it needs to be crewed in such a way that it can happen. I believe a second driver is rostered.

I presume that they can’t flip the trains around on the triangle on the south side of Canton depot - which is a pity.

Is there a reason why the 5th diagram isnt starting now? It would free up a 197 for much needed capacity if nothing else.

It was meant to start before the June timetable change then put back to Mid July and then put back even further.

Does the East Usk move actually happen? I'd be surprised given the difficulties of changing ends there, unless they're double manning it.

It’s been happening a fair amount recently on 1W11, with an extra driver to Cwmbran to assist with the reversal who then goes back to Cardiff

Thanks,I thought it might be something like that. I've noticed East Usk diversions seem to be happening a lot less frequently now then they used to - I've only had one booked in 5 years, and even then it was cancelled on the night and we went the normal way round.

Believe TfW prefer the locomotive in the shed at Manchester, in the future it could end up simply being made to be that way as much as possible. Not entirely sure, but that's what I heard before. Hopefully they will be though!
That may have to alter so as not to fill the train shed roof with fumes

HD05 looking proud on her first Swansea visit as 5 coaches, honestly a big fan of the livery on the black DVT!

For the first time in a long while, if not at all, 6 sets are available for service, with a standby set available at both Canton and Crewe today, only HD06 not available as that's on heavy exam/kitchen mods at Crewe.

Shortlived, as HD07 stops for exam at Canton tonight but it's certainly another positive step.

Brilliant! Sad that it's short but it's an excellent step, I feel glad that I can look at JourneyCheck more often and see that Formation updates are almost always empty too, just goes to show that reliability is finally on a high.

It's certainly getting much more consistent now across the board.

Unfortunately, one Mk4 trip was lost on Monday due to a last minute fault on the DVT of HD01 meaning it was too late to get the spare out so a 197 deputised, it is the exception rather than the norm now.

Spare set HD03 will now replace HD07 this afternoon, HD07 will stand down for a loco swap (010 replacing 013) after 1V42 and HD03 will pick up the remainder of the diagram.

67022 is now back on TfW hire too, stabled at Crewe as the recovery loco.

HD07 has now returned replacing failed HD03 on the rest of the Crewe - Crewe diagram, 1649 ex Cardiff

Also means the return of 67010 to passenger service.

That was planned anyway, it's a one way run to Crewe (via Manchester) then 07 stops for exam.

HD05 is due back out tomorrow and HD03 is (or maybe was) planned to be the spare at Canton.

Saw an unidentified 67 (believe 013) dragging HD03's DVT and set past down to Canton, probably won't be the spare set unless they swap 013 onto 008

013 was the rescue today, unless things have changed that ones already planned onto a set tomorrow, reeplacing 67015 on HD04 between arrival from Manchester and going out on the evening Holyhead.

It depends what's actually wrong with 008 if it's kept off or not. May be a simple fix/replacement part.

Got an advance 1st class ticket for £40 via the TFW app for August.

I've used the MK4 to Cardiff in the past on a standard ticket so jumped at the chance to go 1st class for a change, may even give the breakfast a try (Chef permitting ).

Where to and from ? Seems good value.

The breakfast is absolutely delicious I must say.

Swapped around to be on HD05 replacing 012, which is now presumably just avaliable on Canton
Yes 012 is now the Canton rescue loco.

67008 is now off HD03 after it's failure yesterday, replaced by 67013 which means 67015 has stayed on HD04.

HD06/67020 has failed at Crewe with 5V34, the empties to Manchester for the 06:27 to Cardiff, leaving that diagram currently subbed by 197013. Is there a spare set at Canton over the weekend? If so it may be utilised for the 10:52 back to Manchester.

Other sets today are 67022/HD05 & 67013/HD03 on the Cardiff/Swansea starters and 67017/HD02 on the first Crewe start diagram.

Isn't that typical.
I'm heading to do the Ribble Valley line and intended to get that 67 off Manchester Piccadilly as 1V64 later !!!!!

HD06 was a late substitute for HD01, that also failed. Not a good start. 06 is first day back after a lengthly heavy exam too.
There's no other spares now, as 07 is exam at Crewe and 04 is in Holyhead for the weekend.

Wouldn't be suprised to see one swap in at Crewe mid way through 1W57. That's the normal recovery for diagrams if it's possible with repairing and getting crew for prep.

Looks like 197013 has gone onto Ebbw Vale and 197051 is doing the 1052 Cardiff-Manchester

Planned to swap on the return from Manchester now, 67014 +HD01 taking over 15:10 Crewe to Cardiff, 197051 going on to strengthen Crewe-Chester shuttle.

67025 has been out on a test run and is planned to replace 67014 on the sets return to Crewe.

Just realised said V64, that's not a 67 diagram anyway, comes in from Milford Haven so can only be a unit.
The ones either side, 1V62 and 1V66 are the evening 67s.

Not to sure what was up with it but 67017 (HD02) broke down in Piccadilly tonight on Platform 5 blocking in a Northern 323 in the process meaning that unit couldn't go anywhere, HD02 was still at Piccadilly when I left at 19:55.

Unfortunately the next service to Cardiff after HD02 was 19:30 Piccadilly-Cardiff which was a 2 car 197.

Considering HD02 broke down at Piccadilly I would have thought once they got it moving it would have run ECS to Crewe instead of finishing at Canton.

That appears to be the plan. HD01 on 1W65 which was meant to finish at Crewe tonight has instead been turned back at Shrewsbury and been sent back South, a set swap with a 197 going the other way.
