Hello

On Saturday I am travelling from London Euston to Bletchley with a companion and multiple unusual tickets .My companion is registered blind and as such holds a freedom pass and disabled persons railcard.

I hold a TfL staff oyster (Not a bus operator one) and I wonder if the following ticket combination is valid and would be accepted by revenue
Ticket 1 : Freedom Pass (London Euston- Headstone lane) Disabled Persons Railcard ticket (Headstone Lane- Bletchley)
Ticket 2: Tfl Staff Pass (London Euston -Watford Junction ) Disabled persons railcard companion ticket ( Watford Junction - Bletchley)

the train will be stopping at watford junction but not headstone lane (London North Western Railway service) would the following combination be valid or does the disabled persons railcard ticket require the same origin and destination point as any companion travelling with them on the disabled discount.

Thanks.

That's fine.

From the internal KnowledgeBase (iKB):
The Freedom Pass is considered to be an ‘off-peak’ season ticket for the purposes of National Rail Conditions of Travel, Condition 14.2 "Using a combination of tickets" and for through journeys made on participating operators to and from stations outside the Concessionary Travel area the train does not need to call at the boundary station.
It goes on to say:
The Freedom Pass holder needs to buy the appropriate single or return ticket, which should be either:

a) a Travelcard Extension ticket to or from ‘Boundary Zone 6’,( see Note 1), or

b) a point to point ticket to or from the outermost station in Zone 6 to destinations where a Travelcard Extension ticket is either not available, (see Note 1), or

c) a point-to-point ticket to or from Amersham, Dartford, Swanley.

d) a point-to-point ticket to or from Watford Junction (see Note 2)

Note 1: A Freedom Pass used in combination with either a Travelcard Extension ticket or a ‘point-to-point’ ticket is only valid for a throughout journey when travel is on the services of a participating Train Company in the Freedom Pass scheme.

Note 2: Extension tickets to/from Watford Junction are only applicable if travel to/from Watford Junction is on London Overground services. Freedom Pass holders travelling on through services operated by London Northwestern Railway or Southern need to buy the appropriate Extension Ticket to or from Boundary Zone 6 or Hatch End. Avanti West Coast are not a participating company in the Freedom Pass, so travel on through Avanti West Coast services to/from London using Freedom Passes and Extension Ticket is not valid.

Also at the weekend it may be cheaper to get a Super Off-peak Return from Boundary Zone 6 to Bedford, which is valid via Bletchley.

You would be incredibly unlucky to meet a member of staff checking tickets on board on that journey anyway. Only a very small number of Bletchley guards (it's always the same few) ever bother. So if what you've got gets you through the barriers at both ends, you will be fine.

(note: I don't advocate dumbbelling or similar - buying tickets for each end - as that's fraudulent - but it is useful if what you've got could cause some of the more poorly informed staff to have an awkward discussion)

Was this part of the question addressed properly?
does the disabled persons railcard ticket require the same origin and destination point as any companion travelling with them on the disabled discount.

The Disabled Persons Railcard terms and conditions section 4 includes "The accompanying adult must travel with you throughout the journey" and "INFORMATION: Discounted price tickets purchased by a Disabled Persons Railcard holder should be issued for travel for the same origin and destination and should normally be of the same ticket type (example both Off-Peak Returns)."

I have seen members of the forum argue that "INFORMATION: ..." boxes in the National Rail Conditions of Travel are not actually part of the conditions and hence can be ignored. Does anyone want to make the same argument here, although in this case the "INFORMATION: ..." is just an un-numbered paragraph, rather than enclosed inside a colourful box?

On the "Using your railcard" page there's also the related statement "If the Disabled Persons Railcard holder is travelling on a Disabled Person's Freedom Pass, they cannot use their Disabled Persons Railcard to buy a discounted ticket for an accompanying person" which is not quite relevant here as the railcard holder's ticket from Headstone Lane covers the entirety of the companion's ticket from Watford Junction, but indicates that the reverse - where for some part of the journey the companion is travelling on a railcard discounted ticket while the railcard holder is not - might not be allowed.

I agree that at weekends this will be the cheapest option.
