Why ?

1. There is a tolerance on the speed limit.
2. Why should passenger timings be taken as accurate ? They are still arguing about Charles Rous-Marten's timings
You obviously don't know about what goes on in the rail industry then, and how members of this forum have got staff into trouble.

I suggest you get rid of the parts about the speeds, and the timings of those services.

Ah right. Ok well, two points-
Firstly, I didn't write it! , and
Secondly, I doubt Mr. Railway official is going to chase a driver on the say-so of a passenger, there'd be a hard time proving anything!
Plus I imagine the speeds came from a handheld GPS device, which onboard a train is not going to have a clear enough view of the sky to be accurate anyway.

Newer ones I think, but I guess not on HSTs, unless they're a retro fit.

Well, in the good old days it wouldn't be a problem (especially not as there wouldn't be any really concrete evidence of overspeed), but nowadays I suspect it would be enough to start a full investigation into the driver's actions.

And god help us if the media got hold of it!
