Finland, buses outside cities

Finland residents please, how do you pay for journeys on buses outside cities? Driver, or somewhere before boarding, or Matkahuolto?

I assume long distance such as Kolari - Kilpisjärvi need buying in advance.

What about short distances on those services or interurban such as Kemi - Tornio?

Thanks

I did Kemi-Tornio in 2022 and paid on Matkahuolto.

There were a couple of others who just paid the driver. It looked like cash only, mind you. It might have changed since.

I wouldn't worry about such services being rammed - there were about six others on board.

That's actually a good question as we're pretty much cashless and using apps/travel cars (eg: Helsinki area) is much more common.. At least Matkahuolto and Onnibus only use apps amd for the "U-linja" busses outside of Helsinki I haven't seen any cash being used for many years.

I've just asked a few people and no-one I know uses cash for payment on busses.
