commencing checks straight after they've given two to the driver at New Street, and done the PA. :)
I read on sixbellsjunction, that someone caught the 20:30 to Euston off New Street, because it was so empty, he was gripped before the short tunnel beneath the Bullring Shopping Centre and Moor Street station

I would avoid that one, because of the letter included-
Coach K is usually noisy with the kitchen being there, but also, the tilt is more extreme in the carriage, due to the way the Pendo recieves the signal to tilt etc
I do agree Coach K Seat 3 is a last resort, but northbound it is the last coach, the tilt is excellent and is completely different from when travelling southbound and the view is excellent too!
I find this is a great seat at Weekends as noone passes you!

Long Distance e.g. GNER, VT, FGW is worth it with an advance ticket.

The rest are mostly not worth the extortionate fare.

Simple reply to that needed- ROFL!

Didn't they have a ticket? Was it in FC or SC? The TMs always seem to have common sense, to start with FC on Pendos, if it's an ordinary semi-fast (i.e. A few stops included) , and not non-stop say Runcorn-Euston

I've done FC in coach K on a Saturday, but only because the Pendo was VERY full, with the only other FC seats available being those which weren't either occupied with luggage, or facing backwards.

Yes, I strongly agree with that.

He had a ticket, not sure if it was SC or FC! But gripped before the New Street tunnels

OK, here is an update.
I have 5 days left on my 14 day all line rail rover, first class. Although tomorrow (saturday) will be a rest day.

Today, I ventured onto a non-first class service for the first time (actually, I have done short hops, Bristol TM to Weston-super-Mare, Hull to Doncaster, and a couple of underground journeys), Cardiff to Fishguard Harbour. And all I can say is, I wont be travelling standard class again!

In fact, so sick am I of non-luxury, that I have totally abandoned my plans to travel on the Cumbria Coast and Settle to carlisle lines next week. Those Northern trains just look to uncomfortable to me. And there are no first class sections! Why is that?

So, for me, first class it is from now on. Ive done regional rail rovers for the last ten years, and this was the first time Ive done an all line one. £860 it cost (as opposed to £565 if I had gone standard class), and its so far been worth every penny. In fact, I will most likely do the same thing again next year.

BTW: does anybody know the address of that website where you can type in the journey you made and it gives you the mileage? I must try and work out how many miles Ive done.

 I'm glad to see that i'm not the only one who only travels FC when they have the option of doing so ;)

Have you included any Monday-Thursday Pendolino Primo services in your FC rover plan?

It's a shame that there isn't any FC rovers available over a region where a SC one is.
