The Route Structure Gauge team in Glasgow surely have some questions to answer.

Here's another question - who started advertising the trip without having first confirming that the vehicles proposed to use the trip would be gauge cleared for the trip?

Good to hear that there's been an about-turn. Some common sense.

Looks like they had to get Mark Carne involved. From updated BBC report: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-south-scotland-36292966
Network Rail chief executive Mark Carne said:
"Overnight and through today our engineers and analysts have worked hard to find a way to get the necessary safety checks and engineering assessments done.
"I am pleased to say that we have been successful and are now able to reinstate the original planned tours of Flying Scotsman in Scotland on Sunday.
"I wholeheartedly and sincerely apologise for the consternation caused by the premature announcement yesterday.
"Once the tours have been safely and successfully run, I will be instigating a full investigation into how this problem occurred on our railway in Scotland."

I wonder who will get the bill when it invariably turns out the gauging was rushed and Scotsman takes out a platform...

Very unlikely bearing in mind both routes have had both A4 and Tornado over them with no problems.

The live periscope showed the train leaving from 19 into the mound tunnel, and coming to a sudden halt before clearing the platform, hopefully just waiting for the road in prices street gardens. Made a welcome break from Eurovision

Hauled by refurbed 142s...

As some people will use RTT to see what is going on, can an operator request their train info be bared from the RTT system?

Surely RTT is just a presentation of Network Rail's data. Network Rail would need to censor their own data, which would affect all of the TOC's applications that drew on it. The alternative would be to introduce a complex tiered system of privilege for train data. Can't see that happening as there would be obvious gaps on busy mainlines where specials could be inserted and it would only take the odd anal retentive to boast about his (or even her) knowledge online and it becomes common knowledge.

Has anyone worked out when it's likely to be crossing the Forth Bridge?

Just after 7pm out, and 9pm back, exact times are on real Time trains. I doubt you will get access to dalmeny or north queensferry platforms, but there is a car park with a view of the bridge at north queens ferry, which is likely to be busy. Quieter spots with decent access and a good view will be dalgety bay out and rosyth back

Time for the route director and highers to be sued for everything they have.

This is negligence of the highest order and this time NR has deprived another Government body of revenue, so it really is time a class action was launched to make them step up and behave.

We all know you have a particular beef with Network Rail, I'm now just waiting for the conspiracy theory!

I took my son to see the Flying Scotsman at Waverley before it set off for the Borders, and was really impressed by how well Juliet and her Network Rail team managed the event. First, they put the train on Platform 11 and kept Platform 7 (which runs directly on) clear. So there was plenty of space to wait on the platform in front of the train and get a good view of it approaching as it started off.

Even more importantly, they were understanding of people's excitement and helped everyone to get photos, get in the cab, and generally get near the engine whilst also making sure people behaved sensibly and warning us all when it was time to stand back. The BTP also managed things well, positioning themselves at regular intervals along the platform and ensuring everyone stayed behind the yellow line when it was time for the train to depart.

All-in-all, really good atmosphere and the right balance of access and crowd control/safety. The staff at Waverley really deserve a lot of thanks for doing such a great job. :D

It's good to hear some positive feedback! I hope there aren't any cockups when it visits Shrewsbury next month.

Hi All

**I posted this in a different section but have just thought that it might be more appropriate here. Sorry for the double post!!**

I really hope someone can help. I have a son who is obsessed with The Flying Scotsman and I know he would love to get a glimpse of it. I know that it is going from London Victoria to the surrey hills on the evening of the 25th May but I can't afford the couple of hundred quid it would cost for us to go on it.

Would anyone here know a good place that we could go to spot it on the way out of London? Or a www that I could go to to find out?

We live near Kew Bridge station but could get a train/drive a reasonable distance to see it.

THanks

Tom

You could get a return to Redhill which would be an excellent station to see it as the train would be going really quite slowly to negotiate the junction on to the Dorking line - I'm assuming that this is the route that it will be taking.
