Talking of teams find in their true level, Hyde United seem to have found their level as an upper-mid-level team in the Northern Premier League, Premier Division.
Unfortunately, the Tigers' 0-4 home league defeat today, at the hands of relegation-threatened Matlock Town, means that Hyde can no longer make the end-of-season Northern Premier League promotion play-offs. They do, however, still have the possibility of picking up some silverware when they take on Irlam in the final of the Frank Hannah Manchester Premier Cup on Tuesday evening.

Northern Counties League...Premier Division

Cheadle Town 0 ... Bury 2

Bury must have brought a great numbers of supporters with them, as the match attendance of 2,487 is way above the normal attendance at Cheadle Town. Bury scored in the 7th and 53rd minutes to register their 32nd league win of this season. In the 45 league matches played this season, Bury have scored 127 goals and have 106 points, which with one final league match to play next weekend, leaves them three points clear of Lower Breck and with a superior goal difference.

Cheadle Town must have despaired the fact that their final two league matches were against Bury and Lower Breck.

Last season, Hyde United won the Cheshire Senior Cup and looked favourites to retain the cup for a second successive year, but lost 2-1 to Runcorn Linnets who play in the same league, but a lower division, Division 1 West.

Irlam do play in the same league as Bury, the North West Counties Football League,, Premier Division.

This one was switched to Broadhurst Park, Moston, home of FC United of Manchester. (Park Road Stadium, Cheadle only has a 1200 capacity). As if happens, Broadhurst Park, Moston, is also where Tuesday's Manchester Premier Cup final is being staged.

If ever a club epitomised the term 'defeat snatched from the jaws of victory ' it is Walsall.

Only a few months ago they were 12 (maybe more) points clear in League Two. Now they are in 3rd place, rapidly heading for the playoffs, and we know that may not be successful.
Barrow 2-0 Walsall
…. and still their decline continues.

What has happened to Sheffield United over their last three matches. Automatic promotion seemed a certainty prior to those match results?

A sensible decision noting that the areas of Bury and Cheadle are not such a great distance apart and the average number of supporters of Bury., Will Cheadle Town's 1,200 capacity be sufficient in their final home match next weekend when their visitors will be second-placed Lower Breck who are Liverpool-based and liable to bring a considerable number of supporters.

Would have thought that Park Road Stadium, Cheadle will be more than adequate for this one. Lower Breck's typical home gate this season has only been a few hundred. Their home match vs Bury had a (season high) gate figure of 556.

Well done to Peterboro, they performed better on the day, but one defeat does not ruin what has been an excellent season for Birmingham City.

I wonder which was the last season in any league that Tottenham Hotspur lost no less than 17 of the first 32 matches played?
Quite possibly season 1976-77. Their 32nd league fixture of the Division One season (0-4 away at Everton) was their 17th defeat. Four further losses were recorded and Spurs were duly relegated.

Leicester drew away on Saturday with a 2-2 result at Brighton, if we lose against Liverpool at home on Sunday we're relegated.

Are Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur officially both safe from relegation yet? Obviously, Ipswich Town would have to win their last six on the bounce, unlikely, but you never know!

Only one of them could go down, and they would have to lose all their games (MU) or could only draw one (TH), and Ipswich must win all of their remaining fixtures. But they can’t both go down.

A local bookmaker has the odds of the likely remaining two relegation teams....

Leicester...1/100 on
Ipswich....1/66 on

Other odds on offer for other teams......
Wolverhamton Wanderers......80-1
West Ham United, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur....all shown at 500-1
Everton's odds now 1000-1

Unfortunately not. This one finished Irlam 3 Hyde United 2.

A result on current form was not unexpected as in the two competitions this season they had hoped to be the winners of, they have lost now to both Runcorn Linnets and to Irlam. teams from lower tier levels.

This last debacle followed on from a heavy home defeat in the league 0-4 to a team in the bottom reaches of the league.

Chester 2 v Darlo 1 - took the lead, never a penalty for the Chester equaliser. Goalkeeper error for the winner. Play off hopes mathematically over.

I was at the Den for Millwall 1v Middlesbrough 0 - god what a frustrating team Middlesbrough are! Lots of pointless possession, no cutting edge, crab like passing, a fear of having a shot or a cross. I couldn't watch that every week! The brainwashing of modern football: Possession is king.

No it aint. Scoring goals is king. You will only do that if you have a shot!

Boro have a good team but seem terrified of actually trying to win a game. They should be in the play offs.

PS - several 15/16/47 year old Millwall fans spent the entire game pointing at Boro fans and making the closed hand waving gesture. It was total pantomime and utterly silly. Funny that the stewards were worried about boro flags but not cockney coke heads climbing on the railings at the front of the second tier...................

Over 7000 already-sold tickets for Bury's home NWCL fixture v Burscough on Saturday. This is level 9 out of 10 - surely a world record gate for countries that run a pyramid system? The gate would probably be bigger than many level 3 and 4 games, and one wonders, if all these can turn up on Saturday (99% home fans) where the heck were they in football league days?

Bury had 6719 at Gigg Lane for the final home league game of the 2018-19 season vs Port Vale when they were promoted to EFL League One. Also had 7784 at home vs Oldham Athletic in the February that season.
