Ric is a dream as far as Red Bull goes, which is one major reason why they keep him around. No other driver on the grid is outwardly media friendly, approachable and as good with PR as he is.
agreed - but he hasn't performed.

Which inspired a Q1 elimination, trailing around at the back, hitting the wall and getting fined for driving his damaged car back to the pits in an unsafe condition. Good that he's feeling well-motivated!
we have all had a bad day at work!

Some theories that Red Bull instructed him to return to the pits to ensure the safety car was deployed, to get rid of Lando’s sizeable lead, which gave Max a way back into the race he went on to win

Not quite Crashgate, but along the same lines.

Quite a strange theory when you consider Max was leading when Perez crashed. Lando's lead was earlier in the race. :s

Yes, if anything returning to the pits would make it more likely that the safety car would not be used...

Sergio Perez has a 3 place grid penalty for the next race in Spain for driving the car back in an unsafe condition. Red Bull admitted they instructed him to drive back to avoid a safety car as Max was in the lead at the time.

Aware that there's a financial penalty for Red Bull for this incident too, but this really needs stamping down on, you really can't have teams instructing drivers to stay on track with a car in a dangerous condition, purely in order to gain (or maintain) a sporting advantage. It's not a sporting issue, it's a safety issue, and needs to be very strongly discouraged indeed.

Important question - Did anyone else see what looked like a gopher near the final chicane on one of the laps after the first safety car restart or was it just me?

Max Verstappen has won the Spanish Grand Prix ahead of Lando Norris in second & Lewis Hamilton in third.

Ahead of the weekend Flávio Briatore returned to F1 as an executive advisor to Alpine. This is seen as a controversial appointment after his previous history in F1 including the Crashgate scandal at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix when Nelson Piquet was deliberately to to crash the car to help Fernando Alonso win the race.

Can't believe that was almost sixteen years ago. Max (winning) is getting a bit boring now.

A good race but Lando messed up the start and lost. Him trying to run Verstappen down was fun but futile as Lando burnt up some of his tyre advantage passing the mercs.

Glad to see both McLarens putting on (some) pressure. Just need a few missing pieces and they could in theory be right with Max. So good to have Oscar and Lando on long-ish term contracts as well so there’s a definite project obviously

terrific race today!
first time Verstappen has come up against someone prepared to crash rather than yield. He often relies on that to bully people as the opposition often will play percentages and Vertappen knows even if he does go off he will win the next race.

Verstappen didn't like that!

Lando for me made a mistake in trying to overtake in turn 3, he should have lined up Max, kept behind & DRS overtook him to turn 4. When overtaking into turn 3 he was giving Max the DRS & a slipstream to the next turn enabling Max to get back past. I also thought Lando was becoming more desperate particularly as he was getting a 5 second penalty for Track Limits & so was desperate to get past to try & open up a gap.

The whole incidents would not have happened had Red Bull not had a slow final stop with a sticky wheel nut. This caused the 6 second lead to evaporate & led to the battling in front.

Giving Lando the Driver of the Day award was silly, especially in the face of good drives from Oscar Piastri & Nico Hulkenberg who along with Kevin Magnussen gave Haas a double points finish.

George got lucky but did well to keep the gap low to take advantage of the situation.

Lando did have a fresh set of tyres versus Max’s used ones, so although the slow stop immediately closed the gap, Lando could well have been up there soon enough.

Would Lando have been getting so desperate if Max hadn’t reverted to his old habits of messing about in the braking zone?

Oscar Piastri is a feisty driver and is already giving Lando a run for his money and a future world champion as he matures

Landoscar is a class driver pairing and I really hope it’s a successful one with their good length contracts
