Given that France is a Country that relys heavily on nuclear energy, I suspect that nuclear reactors may be the answer.

I thought this might be it at first but Britain only has 24 (counting closed sites, experimental reactors and under constructions ones)

I AM DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THAT SOMEBODY HAS FINALLY GOT THE CORRECT ANSWER!!

The original question was:-
Brazil has only got 2 but Germany has got 6. The UK has got 42 but France has the most with 53. The most what?

Then followed a series of five more clues:-
1) Viewed from a slightly different perspective, Brazil has 2, Germany has 5, the UK has 30 but France still has the most with 39.
2) Finland has 3 and the Netherlands has 9. In Africa, Egypt has the most with 9.
3) Iran, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia and Colombia have 10 each. Denmark, Sweden and Turkey all have nine.
4) Please get out your maps and charts - water is involved!!
5) What do all the countries I've mentioned have in common?

Answers submitted included:- National Parks, seaports, counties, cathedrals, cheeses, 3-starred Michelin restaurants, World Heritage sites, Oscar winners, extinct volcanoes, canals, Exclusive Economic Zones, watermills, rivers, hydroelectric dams, islands, top-rated beaches, watercress farms, Olympic swimming gold medallists, sea areas, shipping forecast areas, nuclear reactors and off-shore wind farms.

The correct answer can be found here:- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_and_territories_by_maritime_boundaries

Congratulations to @TheEdge for (finally) getting the correct answer. Please take us boldly on to the next frontier!!

Annoyingly (for me, that is), I'm sure I saw a map earlier this week on either the Reddit Map Porn site (most likely) or somewhere in David Rumsey's online collection whilst scanning through...

It was the huge numbers the UK and France have, it had to be something oceanic relating to all those ex-empire islands we each have. Lets stay geographic.

Why would you struggle to take a boat out and go fishing on Lake Vostok?

I'll jump in with another geography question- Where in the world can you find a totally unique “Magic Roundabout”?

Swindon, Wiltshire? (Road-type roundabout -- forget what's supposedly "magical" about it.)

There's an unusual roundabout in Hemel Hempstead that is sometimes referred to by that name.

Is that the right answer?
