Maybe this thread title needs to be edited to something like 'Grayling reshuffle speculation' until the end of the day

The thread creator can no longer edit the title since the forum changes happened, so if anyone feels strongly about it they'll need to let a moderator know.

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
Being as Chris Grayling is the MP for Epsom, I seem to remember him being supportive of the campaign and promising to add Epsom station to the Oyster and Travelcard Zones.

As he has failed to make that happen, perhaps the constituents of Epsom could have him recalled, or even the local Conservative members could hold a meeting to have Grayling de-selected from standing for the next General Election?

He's my MP. I read somewhere that he dropped the Oyster thing because he couldn't be seen to use his ministerial responsibility to win votes in his constituency. Which, to be fair, is one of the more reasonable things he's come out with.

Does this mean transport devoloution for London may be back on.

Unfortunately if this is the case, it'll be just too late for the South Eastern franchise, which was one of the main targets for devolution. That is unless they do something drastic like halting the procurement process.

No, it's just an absolute shambles.

It's politics, especially when there is a hung parliament and a policy vacuum on the only issue that matters (Brexit).
Speculation about Grayling is just gossip until something is confirmed.
Whatever you/we think about him as Transport Sec, he's a Leave and party favourite.

So far its another Reshuffle that never was, Northern Ireland secretary resigns because he needs a lung operation, replacement for the deputy PM (Cabinet Office Minister) but at a more junior level as just a Minister without portfolio rather than secretary of state though confirmed he will be the one running the country in her absence, Communities secretary has had housing portfolio added. Aborted promotion of Grayling to Party Chairman (justice secretary promoted instead) and every other senior minister reportedly refusing to move and shes too weak to sack them.

The bits I've highlighted are key. She isn't running the country - she's just a figurehead. It's clear from today's events she's weaker than John Major was in the mid-90s, with not a shred of power or authority left. The hard right Brexiteers (Johnson, Gove, Davies et al) are running the country - she's just the public face.

Still no announcement on Grayling.

While it's speculation it's been suggested Grayling was supposed to become Conservative Party Chairman with Brandon Lewis taking his place as Transport Minister. However, the plan didn't go down well with some in the party and Mrs May made a last minute decision to make Brandon Lewis Conservative Party Chairman to minimise changes to her plan. It sounds like Brandon Lewis has campaigned a lot for transport improvements so transport is obviously an area he's interested in working in and that Thersea May was weak and unstable, as usual.

Or again, Grayling refused to budge.

Or....False news.

But why would Iain Carter, the Conservative's Political Director, circulate a false story? The Telegraph has found he was responsible for circulating the news that Grayling had become Conservative Party Chairman to all Conservative MPs via a Whatsapp Group as well as posting the announcement on Twitter.

Oh dear. It looks like the current Minister will be forced to continue to show his "care, compassion and respect" to all those unfortunates who happen to live on the line of the proposed HS2 Ltd's very expensive white elephant

I am not sure that changing a transport minister has much effect on policy. What is needed is to remove the "Sir Humphrey" types at the ministry and replace them by people having a more favourable attitude to a modern, progressive railway.(e.g. a less favourable view of expensive things like bi-mode trains)

As far as I know Chris Grayling has not yet been confirmed as Transport Secretary yet so he could still move.

Given that there is no Deputy Prime Minister/First Secretary of State currently I wouldn't be surprised if Chris Grayling was appointed as Deputy Prime Minister given that he is a leaver and given that he gets on quite well with the Prime Minister but I would think its becoming less likely as the day goes on.

Mrs May has said the use of those titles is optional and on this occasion she has chosen not to use them. Someone's already been given the responsibility of being her deputy for PMQs.

Grayling remains in position.

Who is that?
